Alcohol is used in lots of race car engines.
I would not try it in a factory engine as it
comes out of the box. You're sure to bust a
crank and or rods real soon.

Watch "Horse Power TV" on the "Spike" channel
sometime. You'll soon see it cost big bux to
build up a engine to burn fuel other than
pump gas. That's if you want to do it the right
way..

Yes, and no.

Alcohol has higher octane than gas, and it burns cleaner and cooler. But it has fewer BTU's. So it takes more alcohol than gasoline to make the same power.

Gasahol is sold in a lot of places. It's 10% alcohol. Cars run on it just fine. It burns a little cooler in the summer heat. And it won't freeze in a harsh winter. Generally speaking, around here gasahol costs the same as pure gasoline. But you won't get as good a fuel mileage, making it more expensive to run.

Anything more than about 10% starts to cause problems. The materials used in most fuel systems can't stand it, and they will deteriorate. And because you need so much of it to run good, few cars are programmed to run on it.

E85 is 85% alcohol.

Anti moron = STS. We'd recognize him more easily if he just posted as "idiot boy". That was me posting as "Yup" in the other thread. Nice to know it bothered you, that was the intention. You constantly claim there is just one detractor of you, posting under different names. This despite the fact we have told you there are many of us. Alcohol comes in many different size bottles. If you meant 1/5 of a bottle of dry gas, you should have said so. I have never posted as 1HD or N5, nor do they post as each other. Get a clue !

Well, some of the 07 Dak's had a factory engine that will let you run anywhere from pure gas up to e85 (85% alcohol and 15% gas.)
I have this engine in my 07 4x4 quad cab and have used e85 exclusively since I got it in Sept of this year (well except for the very first 1/2 tank to get me close enough to home to buy e85 - not many gas stations have it.)
So far, the power and runability is fine, but it does cost you up to 30% less mpg. Where I live, it cost about $0.40 less per gallon, so I am paying more overall, but not much more (and I like the money going to mostly US based people too.)
The new 08 Dak v8 has more power, better mpg and is flex-fuel capable too, so that is an interesting way to try it.
There is also a company making a system that they claim lets you legally (except in CA) convert most newer vehicles to be flex-fuel capable. I was looking into this for my wife's car, but am nervous about trying it as her car is still under warranty and I don't actually know anyone who tried it.
