My 08 avenger has LED lights that are super bright compared to my 02 dakota. We finally had some rain here a few days ago and while driving my dakota at night the headlights are really very dim.

I would like to just replace the headlight lens assemblies instead of trying to restore them.

I would prefer to have a clear cover instead of one with the ridged design. I've found plenty of retailers that sell the oem type such as

http://www.drautoparts.com/items/item.aspx?itemid=8756466

can anyone recommend a good replacement? And what about a reputable retailer to purchase them from.

oh does anyone know if there is an LED upgrade kit available? I don't want to spend the money for true HID.

I took a look at those. I thought for the most part that the "angel eye" kits were for looks only. The only auto mfr of these is BMW and people drive around with the halo's on/headlights off at dusk for a cool look.

After looking at the pictures, I think I've seen a Dakota in our parking lot with those exact models. I assumed it was just a new headlight assembly, but maybe it includes the halo lights as well. The fit and finish were a little off. I'll try taking a pic of it and posting for you.

Forget the pictures I guess. I was out at lunch and looked again. He's switched away from these to another aftermarket setup. I'm about 95% sure he had the one you were talking about though.

The problem was that the top and sides of the headlight housing were not covered by the rest of the truck and the lip was very visible. Maybe some of that chrome door tape on the lip would have looked okay. If you're serious about it, ask to get a picture to see if it's a problem or not.

I did come up with another option.

I can replace my stock lens set with a crystal clear set. This will take care of the yellowing/fog/part of the dim issue for now. I can use my existing light bulbs.

This will also allow me to upgrade to HID at a later date. I've seen HID kits (bulb and ballast) for around $400. This is a replaceable ballast and bulb kit, some I've seen have been all-in-one.

It sounds like a good option. I really like the billet grille that I added to my Gen III Dakota sport grille ($30). But the one thing that still makes the truck look dated is the headlight assembly.

If you do order/install a replacement, post a picture so I can check it out. Thanks

I'm 80% sure I'm going to replace the stock headlight assembly with a clear one and just get better/brighter/new bulbs for now. Then, hopefully HID prices will come down, upgrade the bulbs at a later date.

here is what the stock looks like - 2nd item down:

I don't like that ridged design, so I'm going clear. I'm still looking for a good deal on a set. I tried calling a couple companies friday i found online but noone answered??

"anyone know anything about CCFL LED lights?" Which do you want to know about - CCFL or LED? They are NOT the same thing. CCFL stands for Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Two completely different kinds of lighting. Fluorescent produces light by running high voltage across a mercury vapor-filled tube that ... fluoresces. LEDs are semiconductors that emit light from a solid.

The link above in my 2nd post calls it CCFL HALO LED.

basically i want better than stock headlight with better than stock headlight assembly (don't like ridged design as shown in the link in my first post.

stock is halogen

my 08 avenger has LED, much brighter than halogen

i want a good bright light, doesn't matter if it's LED, HID, CCFL, some other technology i'm not familar with.

all i know is my headlights on my dakota suck majorly. I will definately be changing headlight assembly, i'm thinking of going with a clear (non ridged) design. That will help in making things bright. As Pete pointed out, i can get a brighter direct fit bulb from silvania. these 2 things will allow me to have brighter headlights

above and beyond that, i can then at a later date upgrade to HID (get bulbs and ballast).

If i have the technology wrong, I got it from my research. I knew almost nothign about LED/Halo/HID until starting my search for better headlights.

Ok, I just bought some replacement headlights from ebay.

I got clear headlight, clear parking light, orange turn light. My wife and I both liked the orange turning instead of clear.

$157 shipped for both front units.

there's another auction on now $103 starting bid.

I couldn't long on as my old name because I've been gone so long and I'm sorry to revive this otherwise dead post. But I have searched all of the net for answers but it led me to this which I suppose is the most relative to my problem. I have an 03 dakota and have already installed 6000K hid's. My problem is that even though they are noticeably brighter head on, they don't seem to shine quite as far as my sylvania bulbs I had before. I've adjusted them in every which way and still no improvements. I'm beginning to think that the stock lenses,(which are not cloudy or yellow) are maybe refracting or bending the light inefficiently? Because of the ridges and baffles? I've thought about buying clear lenses like newer vehicles but I'd hate to waste money if it doesn't work. Has anyone had this or a similar issue involving HID's? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
