i think hes saying that for a small truck with a decent v8 the truck pretty much sucks. its slow for a small truck with a v8. i mean come on people a tacoma with a v6 can run this ho down. and if you dont believe me theres a video on streetfire.net that proves it.

There's a lot more potential in that Road/Turd than there is in the jap truck. Plus the jap truck is a hunk of thin tin that can't haul or tow anything. Check out the Turdra flex like Grants mama doing the man meat mombo on YouTube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zShwG9l1F0Q

Out of the box the R/T is a bit of a pig but you dump a few bucks into it and you have a truck that will eat that rice and crap out egg rolls plus a truck that can haul and tow right up there with a full sized half tone whereas the Taco will always be a ridiculously undersized jap penis.

I've owned the 360, 318 and now this 285 (4.7).
Without a doubt, "out of the box", my 285 will
whip the tar out of the 318 and the 360.

The 360 or 318 were never suppose to be race
engines in the first place. Big (360) is NOT
always better!

Whip the tar out of the box. HA. Be honest and say that a reg cab manual 4.7 will make it a hell of a close race with the cc R/T auto. A stock 4.7 reg cab manual will do low to mid 15's, the same as a cc R/T auto. Depending on the driver too.

With a truck with my setup it will beat a stock RC R/T. Not by much, but it will still beat one. The auto in the R/Ts is a big ol' power sucker. You slap a 5-speed behind it and it is a whole different ball game.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

WOW what a bunch of B.S., My r/t CC satisfies my "NEED FOR SPEED" and I owned a 71 charger r/t 440 magnum back in the day.
For a truck its damned fast, I have never seen the tailights on a tacoma at a stoplight race, never even close!
The ongly thing I seen tailights from a stoplight was a srt-10 viper, my neigbor, I dont really drive my truck much but that was the only other person that "I know that raced" that I lost too...
I also have a buddy that has a toyota tundra with the v8, no contest there......

WHAT????? My 4.7 powered QC 4x4 AUTO....has yet to see the taillights of a Taco or a Tundra....not even when it was bone stock!!! Now that I have the SCT flash tool.....hehehe!!! I think I might try and let the next one have the jump on me, just to see if I can run it down. Where in the world do all of you Taco loving freaks find our forum??? AND then have the audacity to invade it with this B.S.?? I have seen the video of the Taco running down the Dak. The Dak is either really sick or being driven by a chicken s*!t or the Taco has had a lot of go fasdt goodies added to it. Don't be snowblinded by a video that you have no clue on the variables. If you really believe that a Taco will run down and pass a Dak the way it does in that video, you are a fool!!! Enough said. Taco owners and supporters, go feed your trucks a bowl of rice and gett eh HELL OUT OF OUR FORUM!!!!

I agree with the first guy that posted, GRANT.

I own a 5.2, and have driven an R/T. The R/T is a relatively fast truck, but why did dodge only give it 250 hp, + or - depending on the year.

I am sure they had a reason, but there is no excuse IMO that the 5.9 (360) should have come from the factory with less than 300HP. Especially since the auto is a power hog as mentioned by Shoe.

Gone are the days of big v-8 power where 1 C.I. = 1 hp.

Really? Better check the 5.7 and 6.1 HP ratings.

The reason for the HP limit is most likely the costs involved with getting the higher performance engine re-certified on emissions tests, especially when they had no problem selling them "as is".

well i can see 345lb ft doin the damn thing but dodge could atleast of givin the truck a manual or a street/strip built auto instead of this nasty power robbing 4speed with overdrive. dont get me wrong i love the way the truck looks but come on it could atleast do a 0-60 in the mid to low sixs and run the quarter in a min to low 14

Ok, listen up. All you whiners have got to do is call Marty at KRCperformance and have him set up and send you a SCT flash tool. I promise this will improve your performance and make you smile!! If Dodge had put the extras on our trucks from the factory, we as enthusiasts, probably wouldn't have been happy with the fact that we didn't have to play with our trucks to get them to perform any better!!! You want a truck that you don't have to tinker with?? Go buy an SRT-10 or a Ford Lightning!!! Leave the Dakota alone so, they won't increase the price on them!! It is that simple!!! It cost money to go fast. Ask anyone who races in any arena!! Speed cost money!! Shut your pie holes and drop some coin if you don't like the way your truck is performing right now!! By the way...if you decide to stop whining and call Marty< tell him Wade sent you!!

It's a truck. It's made to haul stuff, not a--. I don't care how many stickers and numbers the factory puts on the fenders, it's never going to be a sports car or a muscle car.

Don't get me wrong, I love mine, don't want to give it up. It's everything I want in a daily driver truck.

But for those of you that bought an R/T thinking it's a sports car, shame on you. You let them fool you and take your money.

Can you make it into a fast, well handeling vehicle? Sure you can. I've seen it done to a mack truck; it's just not easy or cheap. If you want a road warrier or a drag strip terror, and you want it done on a budget, I wouldn't suggest you start with an overweight truck with the aerodynamics of my house.

It's cleaner than pretty much every 60's muscle car ever built (except the Daytona Charger and Superbird and a very few others), and in the same weight class as the larger ones, maybe a smidge more. The typical '69 Charger with a big block weighed in around 3,900 lbs, for example. So why not start there? I'm not taking Dodge's side on things. They were milking it. They should have done some sort of special edition 300hp model. Look back at the '89 Shelby Dakota. All other Daks had an anemic pre-Magnum V6. However, since the rather anemic, but still better (than the V6) 318 was already emissions certified, it was a nice upgrade, and since the work was done at Shelby's shop (he received completed Dakotas, then pulled the engine/tranny, and did the mods), it didn't affect Dodge production line schedules. Still, there was some effort involved. I'm still mad they didn't pick up Shelby's follow-up 360 twin-turbo Dakota (man, I'd love to get ahold of that one-of-one prototype!), but that's history as well. Still, they could've at least tweaked the tranny for firmer shifts like Shelby did. I miss the spirit of the old Mopar. Those guys were something else. Nobody else built such a radical beast as the 60's Hemi Dart/Barracuda. Talk about wild!

now correct me if im wrong but isnt that what a truck is for? trucks are torque monsters. that what makes a truck a truck. right? if i want to go 100+ ill get a sprts car. why would anybody want to do that in a truck?

i dont get some people here... maybe its just me?

And what is it they say universally for building a more potent street package? Torque. High winding HP engines aren't nearly as tractable on the street. Most of the Dakota owners, no insult intended, can't pop for $60,000 for a 'Vette or Viper, so they have to start with a Dak, then morph it into a Hot Rod. (If you want a RWD V8 smaller than a RAM vehicle, the Dak is it from Mopar). My '89 is exactly the same basic layout as my '69 Charger was. Difference? Electronic ignition, fuel injection, Overdrive. That's all. The same mods apply. Mine even weighs less than the Charger did. A few fellows wind up spending a lot on a Dak, enough to pay for a 'Vette, but it's spread out, not in one lump. The Dakota is the closest thing to the RWD staple Mopar made in the past. It's the same fairly basic package, aside from the electronics, that Mopar has made for at least 40 years. It's really been the only choice for this sort of package since the late 80's. If you want a truck, get a RAM. If you want a Hot Rod with a really big trunk, get a B-body Mopar from the 60's or a Dakota.
