Subject: front wheel bearings HUB
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello, I have a 1999 Dodge dakota sport 5.2L 4*4 engine. I just replaced the front drivers side wheel hub because the bearings went bad. Now I hear it again in the front. Sounds like I have 38in Superswampers in the front. How can I tell what side is going this time? hopefully not the new one. Another ?, can I take the whole hub assembly to a place and get them to put the new bearings in it for me so I can save some money without buying the whole hub? IS anyone else having this problem???????

thanks

Should be able to tell by where the sound is coming from. possibly jack it up and spin the tire.
Dealers claim you can only change it as a unit. But guys in here have changed bearings both by them selfs and Machine shop.

I might have to jack it up and take a look, b/c all I hear is the sound and vibrations coming from the front, but can't narrow it down. Anyone know the best way to go about taking the old bearings out and putting the new ones in???

thanks again

I have had to replace the hub on the passenger side of my 2000 Dakota 2WD twice in 88,000 miles. It wasn't making noise, but there was play when I jacked up the wheel and gave it the push/pull test. If you are hearing a lot of noise, it should be obvious which wheel it is when you check it out.
