I got down and checked out my undercarriage yesterday and felt kinda sick. I live in Canada & don't have a garage so salt damage is a fact of life. I couldn't believe how rusty everything looked under there, it just seems to have all happened in the last year.. leaf springs, axle, exhaust, everything. What is the best rust protection that you guys recommend? I had it undercoated by the dealership last year, is there a better option.

I had mine Ziebarted and no rust so far... Do they have Ziebarts up in Canada? (Pardon my ignorance, but I have never been up there)

Yes, we do - I thought maybe you didn't have them down there. Are you happy with the results? There is a Ziebart within a block of where I work, maybe I should talk to them.

Hey Lesley,

Go to Krown for your undercoat. I made an appointment for Thursday morning to get mine done.

There the best for rustproofing/undercoating and it costs about $120. When they finish the bottom looks like it's brand new. The only thing is that it drips for 2 days, but what can you do.

Here in Vermont, the HEAVY use of road chloride causes rust in just one winter. The saltwater gets in every nook and cranny of the frame and the calcium stays there FOREVER... becoming active every time moisture is present.

UNDERCOATING is not for rust control... it is designed to deaden road noise.

RUSTPROOFING only covers HOLES in the bodypanels. Surface rust is not covered.

There are some places that save old motor oil and will spray the entiere uncercarrage for you. Then you drive on a dirt road to make a nice coating of oil/dust protection. It is cheep too... perhaps $30-$40

PLUS... any body squeeks are resolved too!

I know folks that have this treatment EVERY FALL and their vehicles last a long-long time.

I've heard that Krown is excellent... I've also heard what you said Bruce about the oil. It all sounds like good advice. Think I'll phone my mechanic guy tomorrow & pick his brain. Thanks guys.
