w/5.2...

I've had it since it was new and it's always used a fair bit of oil and the AC has never blown cold air...just mildly cool air.

About the AC, I think it uses freon that's not very good. They were having to experiment with a lot of different things in that era with freons and paints. Anyone ever find a good solution? Can a more effecient freon be used in the system of am I forever stuck with a subpar AC system?

The oil...there's a tiny bit of drippage at the drain plug. If I use a new drain plug gasket at each change it helps only a slight bit. Still, it uses far too much oil. one thing I wonder is if the PCV valve is too close to the oil spray under the valve cover. Will a taller valve cover with a baffle inside at the PCV hole stop this? Or how about using a tube at the cover and moving the valve a could of inches away from the cover? Or is the oil consumption an entirely different issue that the Mopar worl is aware of?

Thanks.

No, but it has always pinged really bad. I never knew what to do about that but I've recently read on here that could be an issue.

What a quandry. I always said when the warranty expired I would put the performance cam in it. But, 155,000 miles later it's still stock. Now I am of a mind to wait untill the 5.2 expires and put in a 5.9. Maybe stroked, maybe not. I'm not without funds, but I'm also a cheapskate. I have a hard time justifying replacing something that's working fine.

I would like to go on and put the M1 on, but it's not cheap and the 5.2 would probably suffer on the bottom end. On the flip side. when I do put a new motor in I will use the M1. So now I have to decide if I keep dumping oil in it and running on the best gas I can buy until it dies or spend a weekend fixing the factory intake.

Aside from being able to run cheaper gas and use less oil will I realize any difference in performance? I have ceramic coated headers on the way to me now and will run a new exhaust from front to back, but I really don't want to do anything that will not benefit me when I eventually change the engine.

It's looking tho like I might still get another 150K miles out of it so maybe I should fix the leak in the plenum gasket.

I would fix it. the 5.9 is a gas pig. with the prices now, would you really need that power? do you really want it enough to suffer 14-15 mpg on the highway? my 93 5.2 4x4 gets 19mpg+ on the highway and i wouldnt want any less.

I'm wondering if the PCV valve as ever been changed and if it has with what. After market PCV valves are a poor choice for the Dakotas. Original Mopars cost more but do work proper. Could well be your oil problem. If I was to guess, I would say your plenum gasket has been defective sense day one going with your saying it has always used oil and severe pinging condition.
