I'm looking at getting a new 08 avenger R/T. 3.5L V6 235 hp (same rating as my 2002 Dakota QC 4x4 with 4.7L V8).

The R/T is so much smoother than the SXT with optional 2.7L V6 rated at 200 hp. The big difference between the SXT 2.7 and R/T 3.5 is the 4 speed auto in the 2.7 is upgraded to a 6 speed auto in the 3.5

I test drove a couple and it's every bit as fun to drive as my dakota.

Pros
26 mpg highway (I've read many reports of 30 and as high as 34). 19 of my 23 miles is highway.

nice standard features and cool options (heated seats, sunroof, 18" rims, remote start)

lifetime power train warranty

30k MSRP fully loaded (cheaper or comparable to competition)

5 star crash rating

10k less than charger R/T and 1.2 seconds slower than Charger R/T in 0-60.

cons
cheap looking hard plastic interrior (aren't all new dodge's like this???)

monthly payment over older car

Has anyone driven one? Anyone own one?

It has more room and is more comfortable to me than my wifes 2006 VW jetta 2.5.

Got watch those 2.7's knowing for pressure built up known to be oil leaker down the road and that wonderful sludge known unless they improve this over the years but hey you got a lifetime warranty for that I tried steering my fiance's mother towards what you steering at and ended up with a Grand Cherokee 4.7L Laredo well likeed considering previous driver 02' Durango didn't like smaller car says boxy and to much plastic trim to I told her just about everything is snap tite nowadays even some of her panels on her new ride same ,she little disappointed in the gas mileage but accepts because I remindered her you got the just bout' same mileage as your Durango w/same motor and gearing. If you looking to save on gas and money long haul sounds like a winner. Go check out consumers reports they not the best answer ask people in the public like your asking here.Isn't much most cars will get 25-30 mpg in the city today standards go with you looking to get the most out of it

I don't know anyone that has any, i've seen only very few driving around the ATL area. Also, the dealers here have at most 4. Most are sxt, a couple R/Ts.

The R/T I test drove just arrived at dealer 2 days prior and had 7 miles on it.

I'm interested for a few reasons, better gas milage than my 02 QC, as fun to drive (6 speed does wonders over 4 speed), and as you said, lifetime powertrain warranty.

3.5L is same as in charger, it out accelerates charger 3.5L and is not far from 5.7L charger. And as I've seen it referred to "baby charger"...a lot of similarities between avenger and charger. Can't beat almost as good performance for 10-15k less. If i was really concerned about gas milage, I'd get 4 banger avenger or caliber.

I think dodge has a real winner with the avenger, they can attract more buyers if the up the mpg a few (compete with honda) and address the cheap plastic interior look and feel. It's got some sweet options and at 30k fully loaded is a great deal in my opinion.

I'm going to order it sometime in the next month, all i have to do is finally decide on options, paint color and find the best deal.

Before you guys fall in love with that so called;
"lifetime power train warranty", better read ALL
the fine print! I'm SURE the big wigs in Detroit
figured out ways to bail out of that.

And pete is 100% correct about the 2.7 and their
sludge problems. Again, the big wigs are NOT
standing behind their $uckups on that either.

I like Dodge products for their looks BUT not
their warranty and the way thay blame the user
for THEIR faults.

You think that V6 would touch the torque of a 4.7? It wouldn't touch mine.

Found a dealer in north GA that had one in stock, 2008 Avenger R/T marathon blue. I picked it up last night. It had 196 miles on it when I arrived to work this morning.

It's a sweet ride. Very comfortable, quiet, smooth shifting, quick acceleration with no effort (light peddle), good braking and every bit as fun to drive as my 02 QC 4x4.

My next purchase just might be the 3" rancho lift for my trusty dakota.
