I have an 02 dakota with the 4.7. I want to install a remote start kit with the remote door locks. Does anyone recommend a certain brand that they have used or even know how hard it is to install one. Thanks

I installed them in both my rigs . Rather had them installed. Brand is AUTO MATE. They been in one year and one quit working already. 300 bucks each installed. Installation is very complicated at least for these. Not something I was about to tackle.

Directed Electronics is the only remote start I would suggest to anyone, for any vehicle. They have several different brands, Python, Viper and Sidewinder. I think Circuit City sells the Rattler DEI products. Some of their products also have alarm systems integrated with the remote start. DEI also has a unit called the Valet that is a stand-alone remote start-keyless entry system if that's all you want for your truck.

Installation is not very difficult for a remote start, if you know how to use a voltmeter and understand relays and diodes, and you are familiar with locating and interfacing with the different functions of your truck for the remote start. A lot of shops sell the DEI products only with their installation, so you may have a hard time buying one over the counter. I think it's part of the DEI dealer agreement. If you are not familiar with automotive security systems and their installation and operation, it may be best to buy an installed remote start. Any good shop out there will have a lifetime labor warranty too so if there's a problem they will fix it for you. But the DEI products hardly ever fail or have a problem. The key point to remember is that a remote start and/or alarm is only going to be as good as the guy who installs it. Take a look at www.directed.com for info on the DEI products. They work great and they last.

Let us know how it turns out.

Jimmy

Trade in for an 08. Factory remote starter comes standard on them all.
