Message: Yeah, It looks like there are three 10mm bolts holding the assembly onto the truck. I just tried removing mine on an '04 Dak this morning and could not do it. It seems there was something in the upper left corner on the right assy. still holding it on. I didn't want to pull on it too hard in fear of breaking whatever it was, but it would not wiggle out. I bought some PIAA extreme white bulbs but I'm not sure if I'll ever get to use them. These are the hardest bulbs Iv'e ever tried to change. Let me know if you have any luck...

Message: You don't have to remove the whole assembly to change bulbs. I do it all the time withour removing the assembly.

Message: Ya, That did act like a ball and socket. I can't imagine why one would be there though. I know if I try to pull on it, I'll break it. I don't have enough patience for that. I guess I'll try again going from the engine compartment.
Do I need to turn the grey thing with the tabs counter clockwise, then the bulb will pop out with that? Thanks for the info. That was very frustrating...

Message: The ball and socket is for the headlight aiming. Don't break it. You need to disconnect it to swap housings. I had to remove the battery to get at the left one. On my 92, I also had to remove trim around the headlight, which barely cleared the bumper.

Message: just changed my 03`s headlights. used 1/4" drive with two extensions(one 3",one 6") to get between bumper on lower bolts. have to start on the out side where there is more clearance to get socket in and slide over to bolt. passenger head light just fell out(no ball and socket this side),drivers side had ball and socket which came out a lot easier than the first time I did this, yank on that sucker!(carefully)

Message: great, so....it sounds like i can change the headlights out and not have to remove the battery and or the bumper???
so we all agree that it is all done from the front outside of the vehicle on a 1999?

Message: Hi, I guess I'm going to try this again today. I read that it's best to remove air box which is no problem, I was just wondering if I should twist the grey things with the tabs around the bulbs? I'm always worried I will break the plastics. I definitely decided I'm not going to pull on the plastic ball and socket from the front.
Thanks for you input. Any other tips much welcomed.

Message: U change out both bulbs by using the hole in the inside of the fender. Under the hood I know its a pain u have to bend your arm like 3 different ways and fight wiring but thats how u do it. Ive done it twice. just try not to touch the bulb
