I own a '98 dak 3.9. A year ago this August I had the heater core replaced along with the evap core. Cost me close to $700 parts/labor. Well, a few days ago I noticed a leak from under the dash. Am I going to have to have the dash pulled again to fix this leak? It would seem that the damn core should last more than a year. Truck has 96,000 mi. on it, & I ain't put 10,000 miles on it since repair.

A little-known fact is that if the dealership replaced it, it has a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. Of course they don't advertize that fact, but it's true. If it's been less than a year, and you have proof, they should fix it.
Make sure you're using the correct type antifreeze and in the right ratio to DISTILLED water, not tap water. Tap water has chemicals the antifreeze can't protect against. Corrosion and deposits in the cooling system usually result.
When I was thinking of letting the dealership replace the coolant in my 4.7L, I asked them what kind of water they used. When the service manager said "Oh, just regular tap water out of the hose" I did the coolant replacement myself.

Nah, it wasen't a dealership. I think the core came from NAPA.

The NAPA core should still have a warranty on it, and the shop that did the work might still have a warranty on the labor. Would be worth a couple of phone calls anyway.

I've replaced some cores in the past without taking the dash out but it is not an easy fix. Plan to spend a few hours to get the job done. You can get to the core from under the dash. Just have some towels near by to get the remaining coolant when you disconnect the core.
