I am wondering if anyone knows when the new Dakotas are supposed to be coming out? I read something that said August '07, but here August is getting close to the end and I have heard nothing. I have an '06, but would maybe consider trading it in on an '08 when they come out.

Thanks

The redesign for 2008 smoothed out the lines a bit, and the looks are a bit more appealing than the current incarnation, but the 2008 model is still kinda butt-ugly up front.

They've already arrived at some dealers here in Atlanta area. However, they are the ones with the 3.7L V6.

Some dealers here don't expect any for another 30-45 days.

Funny thing is, the dealers still don't have the technical data on the new 4.7L.

I wonder when the new 4.7L will make it to other dodge vehicles.

The way dodge is going about things the 4.7 is probably going to be a let down. Anybody with any intrest is anxious to see the new beast and they want to draw things out. So very irritating but I can't wait til they hit my part of the woods to see what they're like.

Oh should mention that they've been available for ordering for a few weeks. But, who's going to order one without driving it first?

I did a little research, and please correct me if im wrong...
but i dont think you can get the manual transmission with the new HO 4.7, only with the old 4.7 (both of which will be available)

kind of a let down to me if its true.....I was considering tradeing in my old 97 Dak for one...but not if i cant get the best engine with a manual.

with the 08 there is no HO option. You get either the newly redesigned 4.7L V8 or the 3.7L V6. The new 4.7 has been modified a little from current production 4.7L (see allpar.com they have an article on the new 4.7 engine). It produces more hp and torque than the 4.7 with the HO option.

Last numbers i saw were 302 hp and 329 torque.

I believe the manual is still the standard engine and the automatic is an upgrade.

Your right Dan i stand corrected, on the 4.7L options. Thanks for clearing it up...i was a bit confusd on it anyway..lol...I must have had my wires crossed when reading the last 2008 Dak article.
I still dont think the Manual is an available option with the V8.
This article here is a bit vague: http://trucks.about.com/od/2007dodgetrucks/a/dakota_pricing.htm
It says the Manual is standard with the 3.7; but doesnt say anything about being available with the 4.7.
I'm not trying to prove you wrong..honestly im looking for proof that you CAN get the Manual with the V8. I'm just shareing what info i have right now.
If anyone else knows for sure one way or another...hook us up.
I'll get a new Dak...if i can get the V8 with a manual.

Car and Driver stated the 5 speed auto is the only option w/ 4.7 V8.

Motor Trend confirms here:

If more HP is what I wanted, I would be going to my nearest Dodge dealer to inquire ('02 4x4 4.7 QC Dak now). I'm looking for fuel efficiency with good torque, and thus I will be waiting for 2010 Ram or Dakota w/ diesel.

I can't wait to see or test them. Adams got a good point, luring us mopar fans in with the new 4.7 redesign of the grill, and a REMOTE STARTER, STANDARD on every Dakota.

Now if only Pontiac would reproduce GM's REAL muscle car, the Firebird, the American car companies might start to dominate the auto industry again.

I wouldn't doubt the Firebird will make an appearance w/in the next few years since Chevy's bringing back the Camaro.
