hey guys. ive got a 93 dakota with the 318. but theres little to no torque in the low rpms. i cant chirp my wheels off the start. its an automatic but still. if the roads wet, i can get it sideways at 35mph no problem. but nothing off the line. i dont race, but its disapointing. ive heard of checking what gears i have in the diff, but im not sure what the markings on the case mean, so i dont knwo how to tell without puttin it on jack stands and disconnecting the driveshaft and counting the turns on the input shaft compared to the wheels. another thing ive heard of is replacing the cap and rotor, which ive never done. im guessing its not very complicated as its easy to get to.

what are your thoughts? any other ideas that would cure this?

also im looking to find cheap performance mods. i know some guys tamper with the sensors and such. but i dont know which ones and what i should do.

anything would be much appriciated.

thank you.

eh ive done it all pretty much. sparkplugs, havent done the wires, air cleaner, injector cleaner, oil filter and some others i have probably forgotten.
it does have a bit of a rough idle for the first 20 seconds of starting up. never dies but it will die if i put it in reverse without any gas. i dont know if that means anything bad. its an older car. its got its wierd things right?

well sounds like you got other problems then. check engine light on? drivability things are kind of hard to diagnose over the internet. so i would recomend going to a shop and have them check it out. maybe an iac?

all you changed were the plugs? what about cap, rotor, wires, O2 sensor?

"it does have a bit of a rough idle for the first 20 seconds of starting up."

is this the first start of the day only? or every start?

nope havent done those four. haha. would that really make that much of a difference?

i guess that would make sense though. ill replace those and see if its still like teh way it is.

no check engine light. nothing binding, no wierd noises or anything. if that all didnt change it i guess ill just bring it in to a shop.

on a side note, anyone heard a cherry bomb turbo 2 muffer on a 5.2? im short of cash and its a 20 dollar "performance" muffler. i want it loud, and couldnt care less about interior noise. just not glasspacks.

oh and btw the rough idle and such. pretty much every other day. no real pattern on when it happens. sometimes it wont happen for a week. only sometimes.

and another btw, the engines probably got around 100k on it. the chassis is at 220k. it was towed behind a motorhome for more then half its life.
