I have a new (leftover from 06') dodge dakota with 10,000 miles on it....I bought the truck as a base model with no power options..I.E. windows, locks or cruise. I have since added (2 days after purchase, and aftermarket alrm/remote start and power locks. Have had no issues with the truck until this week. If I use the ACC option with the ignition and listen to the radio, the driver side airbag light comes on when you start the truck and stays on until the next ignition cycle.

I take it to Dodge and they blame the aftermarket alarm and locks. It is cutting the ignition out supposedly and causing the light to come on. This could also damage a $900 Module in the truck that runs these circuits I was told. They advised me to remove all the aftermarket items to avoid a costly repair that would not be covered by Dodge.

Any thoughts on this? I find this hard to swallow. Those items have been on the truck since day 2 and never had a problem, and all of the sudden they are going to cause this???

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks

I'd disable the aftermarket stuff and see if your
problem goes away. If it does, the stealership
was correct.

The problem will be IF the problem does NOT go
away, the stealership will STILL tell you the
problem WAS caused by your aftermarket stuff.

You're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard
place...

Good luck...

The other problem I have with this, is the exact same item, alarm/remote start were on 2 previous Dodge vehicles I had without incident. I can say the same, because I transferred this unit from vehicle to vehicle upon trading them in.

The air bag light does not come on when the locks are activated nor does it come on when I use the remote start option. If this/these items were the cause, would it not cut into the ignition circuit every time I use them making the air bag light come on? Again, it only comes on when the ACC option is used. Plus, the locks are not even wired to the truck. They are wired to the brain of the alarm. So they are not drawing any power from the truck directly and is bypassing the ignition circuit altogether.

I think this will be my last Dodge is they want to use this as a scapegoat for what appears to be an issue on there end. I have not disconnected the alarm yet, to see if the problem persists. I plan to, but just really find it hard to believe this is the cause when I have not had it in the past 2 vehicles not for the last 10,000 miles.

Should have added a fuse. All it takes is one small short to melt you car down if you don't put fuses in your lines. Seems to happen a lot with kids who put huge Amps and stuff in their cars.

Sounds like it may be unrelated. Is there a different dealer in your area you could take it to ? Some are better than others.

No he does not. Also, why would you just not get power lock from the dealer when you bought the truck? I am sure that they offer that plus an alarm. People are strange these days.

To answer the last reply...I bought the truck as a base truck because I did not want to spend the extra $2k for the "Package" from Dodge that included cruise and the power options. To call someone strange for choices that he/she makes takes a lot of nerve when you don't even know the person.

Anyway, after taking the entire alarm/remote start out, the problem still existed. However, Dodge said that the items caused the problem to begin with and they would still not cover it. I even had the manufacturer of the alarm system (Audiovox) send the wire schematic and a tech guy call dodge to help diagnose this problem. Dodge still insisted that it was the aftermarket items although they were clearly unrelated to the Airbag issue. Great 5 star dealer I tell ya.

So the items were removed and I traded the thing in on a Quad cab fully loaded with every option I would ever want to avoid this hassle in the future. Anything that is added to this truck will be done by Dodge this time. Yes I went back because I love the trucks. So I have had this new one for 3 weeks now. Yes, took that long to sort this issue and for me to just dump the thing. It is in the shop for issues already. Speedometer does not work, turn signals do not cancel themselves and the overhead console with the compass, temp gas calculations does not work. I am going North and the system tells me I am going South. The temp stays at 72 and it has been in the upper 90's the last week. The only thing I have had done to this truck since I bought it was a hitch and wire harness installed by Dodge. I had them throw it in the deal. I also put in a Line X bed liner.

3 week old truck already having electrical issues. Interesting

I was stumped with the options the person chose for my truck. Power windows, door locks, and mirrors. No cruise/tilt steering. No overhead digital console. Weird things people do.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

SO Dodge replaced the speed sensor in the trans to try and fix the speedometer problem. They supposedly could only get the speedo to act up 1 time and the computer was still warming up so it did not get a code.

Speed sensor replaced Saturday morning, Saturday night, no more speedo again. Came in and out Sunday and did not work again this morning on the way in to the office for the first 8 miles, then it worked fine the rest of the 34 mile trip.

I wonder if this is an indication of continual problems with this new truck???

Just go ahead and trade it in on another truck exactly like it. Get exactly what you want. Everything should work correctly. That's a whole lot of your hard earned cash. Just keep trading until they get you a truck that works like it should. And get the HO 4.7L too...

I did mention that and was told it could and would not happen. Maybe a call to corporate Dodge is in order?

Maybe. Got a lemmon law in your state ? Where I live, they'd have 3 tries to fix it, then they'd have to eat it.

Hmm, A 2006 with 10,000 miles. At least you'll get a good trade towards another truck. Go to a different dealership, tell them nothing's wrong with it. If it's a tundra, tell 'em you fell head over heals over it and would do anything to get in it. They'll probably take your trade in a heartbeat overlooking the issues to make a sale.

Let's rephrase here as it seems there may be some confusion. The 06' with the airbag problem was traded in 4 weeks ago for a quad cab that is having the speedo problem.
