Quick question about the Superchips tuner...

I'm running the performance tune...I'd like to also use it to calibrate my speedometer. The instruction manual says it'll ask for a factory tire size and then the current tire size...but mine only asks for the "tire size".

I'm assuming it wants me to put the current tire size, but if it's not asking for the stock size, then is it getting the info from my PCM or is it gonna use a preset value assuming all the vehicles it's made for come stock with the exact same size tires and throw my speedo all outta whack.

I'd test it out with one of those radar signs in town, but I'd rather not risk getting a ticket going across town to get to one. lol

It's works off the size you tell it if you choose to use that option so you should not have a problem. If you want to verify it, use your tach. You can figure what your rpm should be based on tire height and gear ratio at a given speed. Then see if you're turning the rpm you should be for the speed that your speedo is telling you.

ooooh...didn't even think of that. Thanks!

It'll be nice to not have to estimate how much I'm speeding on the highway...but being able to calculate my gas mileage without using extra calculations will be nice.

Although I kinda liked my odometer rolling over slower...haha. Maybe I should calculate it for the max tire size and just run an aftermarket speedo...sell it with super low miles one day. =P

the speed radar signs are some times off by 5 or more mph
if you know your exact tire height and gear ratios
this calculator will help you

HA HA I just used my SuperChips tuner to adjust for tire size change for the very first time yesterday!

And I thought the same exact thing, that I would put in my stock size THEN the new size but all it wanted was the tire size being used. So I assume it gets the stock size from the VIN information, etc or whatever the PCM tells it.

I need to hook my GPS up and test it. I went 1.5" taller as I just got some Big-O Big Foot tires yesterday. I think they are 265 70 16's in place of my 29" tall 255 65 16's I was running (the stock 245 70 16's which were 29.5" tall)

I noticed a little change in my initial take off acceleration, but with my 4.56 gears it still gets up and moves. But really grabs the asphault now!

GB2000, if you want your speedo to show lower than actual you want to program it for the smallest size (22.5) and not the largest. This results in a 20-35% lower than actual, depending on what size tire you are running. Definately would make your warranty last longer.

Oh yeah...duh...if I program it for the larger tires without running em, my smaller tires will make it turn waaaaay faster, won't it? lol

I got that idea when my friend was like, "Dude...you could buy a brand new truck, put 44" tires on it without calibrating everything and when you sell it, it'll have WAAAAAY less miles!"
