so i got my 04 dakota from up by chicago i think the shocks are bad it has been lowered and i dont know how much or by who cause the shocks dont have a readable sticker on em. but how do i know what size of shocks to put on my truck if i dont know the other info?

Your going to need another truck just like yours to compare. At times I have asked permission to do these un intrusive comparisons on one located on a car lot. Once I had to go to a privet party. Regardless your going to have to compare mounting points to be sure they were not relocated. Measure from more then one point the difference of ride hight. You'll need to do the back also if it was lowered . This should give you all the information you will need to purchase shocks.
