 Subject: power steering

My 2004 SC 4x4 with 4.7 and 5 speed is having power steering problems. Basically, it seems to lose the power part of the steering at random times. It usually returns to normal but not always. Seems to do it more now that the hot weather has arrived. Anyone had this problem or have an idea what is causing it?

Had the same thing going on with my 03. I had the power steering unit replaced once under warranty, and then about 3 months ago it was doing it again and eventually stopped working completely. I had the power steering pump and rack and pinion replaced. Major pain in the butt because I went with an aftermarket pump because I didnt want to put another crap factory one in, but the shop had a hard time matching up the aftermarket pump with the stock reservoir, it kept leaking. Finally they got it to not leak and has been working fine for about a month now. Hopefully it will last longer then the factory pumps did.
