Hey Guys, looking for some insight...

I have a '01, CC, 4x4, 4.7 with 118k. People have told me that mopar is known for crappy transmissions, but I wasnt sure if it applied to Dak's.

When I'm on the highway running about 65mph the transmission thinks it needs to grab a lower gear for a about a second, but then changes its mind, and goes back into OD. Its like its downshifting without actually downshifting. It goes out of OD, RPM's shoot up about 500-700 for about a second, and then slips back into OD. Its getting more frequent now, about every 2 or 3 mintues. It usually does it on its own, but I can get the transmission to do it when i lightly push the gas down and then let it back up while im driving down the road. Other than that the transmission seems to be fine.

Any thoughts or ideas? Will towing make it worse?

I've not owned my dakota long, but mine is the exact same model, almost the same miles. When I first got mine it was doing that. I checked the transmission fluid and needed to add about a quart...it seemed to improve alot after that. It does seem to be very sensitive about that speed though with any variation in pedal pressure. I just avoid it and go 70-75 :-D Maybe these guys have some better insight though.

99% chance it's simply a worn Throttle Position Sensor.

That transmission is almost completly electronic and if that TPS is worn it will cause that exact probmel. Kind of like a dirty volume control on a radio.
While on the older transmissions like a 46RE where only the mechanical throttle valve feedsback for throttle position, the TPS does it electronically for the transmissions on a 4.7 or Hemi.

One time I didn't get mine plugged back in all of the way and it was loose at the plug. Boy did my transmission wig out!
