Subject: a/c woes - valve on high pressure side

So the A/C in my dakota has not be as cold as it used to be. I got out my a/c guage set to test the pressure.

I went to take the cap off the high pressure side and the entire valve unscrewed with the plastic cap. Oops! there goes the refrigerant! after fidgiting with it, I was able to put it back in and stop the leaking. The o-ring was not sealing properly, it was being blown up by the leaking refrigerant.

So I ordered a new valve from my local dealer. It will arrive in the morning.

Before ordering the part from the local dealer, I called the dealer i purchased the truck from used in jan 2006 just to see what they would say since they were the ones who put the cap on too tight. The short of the story, the service manager told me that the dealer changed ownership in may 2006 and he would not do anything. The dealer (in cartersville GA) was named mainstreet dodge but they are now chuck clancy. He said that the mainstreet techs worked on it and if I didn't mess it up, it would have been the mainstreet techs which do not work there anymore (he said there maybe a 1 sales guy from mainstreet still working there) and they being chuck clancy won't do anything except offered for me to bring the truck by to pay them to fix it.

Yet another fine example of service from a dodge dealership in the Atlanta area.

woodstock dodge - told me they didn't have to sell me a car. The magnum I tried to buy back in oct 2006 finally was transferred to another dealer 2 weeks ago to be sold to a customer.

marietta dodge - can't fix brakes, sell damaged parts and tried to blame me for causing the damage.

mainstreet dodge - tried to shaft me on the agreed upon sales price and not upload their "we owe" (which we all signed, I kept my copy, the conveniently lost theirs) to replace damaged fog light and missing rim centerpiece when i bought my truck.

chuck clancy - see above.

I didn't really expect them to do anything, but shesh, it's $10 for a new valve and cap.

Be careful with these dear ships that sell to new owners. We have a Dodge dealer here that sold out. He was taking money down and trade-ins right and left telling the buyers there credit was real good so no problem. Told them to take the new car home. Long story short, about 30 days later the dealer called the buyer and stated there was a finance problem. low interest loan was not available to the buyer. and they needed a bunch more down with way,way higher interest rates. There original trade in was gone and money payed was gone with it, eaten up with the depreciation of there 30 day old car. Some managed to find the extra required money and meet the higher payments. some had to give back the new car losing there trade in and down payment. the rest took on a lawyer to fight it. now here's the kicker. The dealer sold the dealer ship for ONE DOLLAR to a name that was actually himself. this took place 5 years ago. This dealer still owns the dealer ship. the buyers that took on lawyers were not able to maintain the high cost of the legal fees and one at a time dropped out. Every buyer lost there trade in and down payment. Bottom line. Buyer beware.

I hear you OBIO3. My wife and I went to the dealership on saturday night. We took the truck for a test drive. Negotiated the price, negotiated the trade-in, they ran our credit and gave us our monthly payment. All we had to do was sign the paperwork. They suggested since it was now past closing that we drive the truck home that night and come back on monday to sign the paperwork. This particular dealer was closed on sundays. I told them that my wife and I had to work on monday and could be back after we both got off work. All cool. They gave us a paper plate, we signed a document about terms of use (no more than 500 miles, no more than 100 miles from dealer, etc). We left the dealer with the new truck and the old truck.

We went back on monday, our sales guy "had a family emergency" so we dealt with his manager. The dodge credit person was gone so we went to the chevy credit person who had to call someone to get his password reset for their "dodge system". The sales manager left us alone with the credit guy.

When he printed the paperwork, that's when i noticed the price and trade in was not what we agreed on. I we also filled out the "we-owe" which is a document between us and the dealer on items the dealer was responsible for such as broken fog light, missing center cap, etc.

Well the credit guy was a little rude when I told him no deal, those were not the terms we agreed on. He said he was given that info and for me to sign. I told him no deal, give me my old truck back, I'm going home as I had already handed over the keys for it. The credit guy called the sales manager back over who said he didn't know the terms other than what was left for him by the sales guy. I told him no deal, give me my old truck back that I was leaving. After the sales manager stating "they were losing money" on that price and me stating "tough luck, that is not the terms we agreed on".

I can see how this particular dealer would shaft people on price and trade in. I'm sure some people were not careful when looking at the sales price and trade in values when they signed the paperwork.

They also tried to shaft me on the we-owes. That's another story. Especially considering since I had a copy!

the moral of the story, always get written copies of all agreements signed by the sales guy. Pay attention to the documents you are signing.

Just to make myself feel better, I've called dodge on all customer issues with dealers I've had and provided full names and dates of incidents.

I feel no love from dodge dealerships. Kind of makes me regret driving dodge for the last 9 years. I know that if dodge doesn't up the anty on warranty and fuel economy I may jump ship to another manufacturer.

After all of that, they blame me for this a/c issue and say it's the fault of the "previous dealer" and not them.

Another lesson learned is not to surrender your vehicle or take delivery of the new one until all the paperwork is finalized. A dealer once promised me $1000 trade-in, then wrote up $500, hoping I wouldn't notice. I should have walked, as I later found they were the biggest crooks in MA (106 consumer complaints on file), and they were forced out of business.

I think i'll take a look at the BBB for the old dodge dealer, mainstreet dodge, and see what i turn up. Perhaps that's why they sold out and why noone from the old dealership ownership is still employed there.
