Hey, Im thinking about purchasing a used 2000 dodge dakota quad cab. 4.7L V8. I have been checking alot of stuff online and I have read lots of reports about oil pressure problems. I think this is my main concern at the moment and I was wondering if the problem is that common and if it has happened to you all if you could tell me what to do to prevent such problems or fix it. The dodge i drove most recently would maintain good oil pressure while i was driving but as i was slowing down or stopped the oil pressure would drop to just below half way, is that typical of these dodges?

Also any other advice or input on this make dakota would be helpful, thanks a ton all.

That's typical of all vehicles - oil pressure varies with rpm, since the engine drives the pump. We haven't heard of that as being much of a problem here - with good maintenance, it shouldn't be. Still happy with my '00, had it since new.
