Subject: 3.7L Dakota w/manual...real world mpg?

Hello all. Dodge has just increased the rebate on the 2007 Dakota to $3000 and I simply have to know...because it's either a Dakota or a Colorado for me.

What kind of mileage can I expect with a 3.7 L, manual transmission extended cab, 2WD. I drive about 75% highway and generally take it easy...cruise about 65 mph. Thanks.

If you can drive the new Dak unladen and on flat ground, you may get good mpg numbers. If you carry any kind of load and have hilly terrain, the 4.7 probably get better mpg. You have to remember the 2005-up Dakotas weigh 4250 pounds+. The previous generation had regular cabs that weighed 500 pounds less. If you are set on a 3.7, consider a 3:92 rear gear for a performance boost.

If you compare a Dak, to a colorado, then you shouldn't buy the DAK.

In other words, if you'd be caught dead in a colorado, then you should buy one! Be sure to get the big I5! What a POS

By the way, my quad cab, 4.7 manual, with NO hills or winds, doing 65, highway only, gets about 21mpg.

So nobody has mpg numbers on the 3.7L with manual transmission? How about the 3.9L?

my '00 4x2 QC w/ 3.9/ 5spd/ 3.55 gears got a best of 23.5 mpg on the hwy @ 65 w/ a/c on and about 1100 lbs of people & luggage. flat ground.
usually averages about 22 hwy and 17 city. if i towed anything or lived in hill country, i would have definitely looked for a v8. minre is stock with exception of a v8 tb and the CPS mod for a little more timing.

My '04 Club Cab, 3.7L, Auto, camper top, hilly terrain and short freeway drive to/from work = 16-17 mpg, consistently.
