I guess I'll start off with... I love my Dakota, I've had her for 7 years now... She hasn't given me too too much trouble... Ok well, replacement Tranny, Replacement Clutch/Slave Cylinder... Plenty of Tires ...And some random accidents due to idiot drivers and one really stupid deer... But thats beside the point... She's a 98 Dakota Sport... Regular Cab Short Bed... And due to my job I am now going to have to get rid of her... She's been a good work horse for me and I'll miss her... But I guess what I'm really sorry about is what my replacement is... A 2002 Trans Am... I'm leaving Mopar and going to Pontiac... I'm sorry guys... but 15 mpg on the highway just isn't doing it for me anymore... and the fact is... I loved my truck... but it just wasn't enough... So this is going to be my last post on here... Sorry Guys... Nothing Wrong with Dakotas, But I'm moving on to bigger and Better things... Oh and I guess Faster too!

well sorry to see you go but, let's see you when you have to haul something big, will your trans am help you then, and depending on the size of the engine in your dakota, prolly a 3.9 the gas mileage in a trans am is prolly going to be worse, i say stupid move but it's your life mang.

"Bigger and better" ??? Please compare what you could haul in your truck to what you can now haul in your trunk. A lot of us drive a truck because we need one.

Guys... I lived on a farm all my life... My truck got plenty of use as a truck... But I no longer am going to live in the country anymore due to my job after college... So the need for a truck has diminished quite a bit... And My dad has a Cummins, Which I know will pull a little better than my Dakota ever did... And the gas mileage... Dakota with plenty of mileage friendly mods... depending on the time of year... anywhere from 14-20 mpg... The Trans Am... My friends gets over 30 on the highway... course it helps that gm puts a .5 overdrive on them but anyways... BTW.. if I really need to move a bunch of stuff... my family still has a Semi if I need it... But I loved my truck... never had very many complaints about it... But I am moving on... Sorry Guys...

You know what? Maybe you should take a trip to MPGResearch.com and do some investigating. After my tranny job I'm back on to the fuel system. I bought a 96 Subaru in the mean time.
I love mine too much to let it go!

Yeah, I don't see why people are flipping out because he's giving up his truck for a car. It's his life and he has every right to get a vehicle he likes. If you think it's a stupid decision, then don't make the same one.

Anyway...I'd do a lil more research on the fuel economy if you're only getting a new vehicle based on gas mileage. The Pontiac Trans Am is rated at 18 city/26 highway. Yes, it's just a TINY bit higher than a Dakota, but honestly to me that wouldn't jusify getting a new vehicle. I've also heard that if you decide to romp on it with a Trans Am (and if you're anything like probably 95% of all men out there, you will), your gas mileage can drop into the single digits. If you're going for the Trans Am because they look cool and you've always wanted one...more power to ya. Those things sound kickass with the SLP Loudmouth exhaust.

I don't pay attention to much here these days...I pick out the posts that interest me and reply if I feel like chiming in. But if he regularly posts here, then I totally understand why he made this post. I'd do the same thing if I traded my Dak for something else...though currently I'm looking to trade mine for either another Dak or a Ram...so everyone would be a lil more understanding. Even if I traded for a Chebby, I'd still post just to update everyone that I'm no longer driving a Dak though. Just kinda something you do after you've been regularly posting somewhere for a while...and holy hell, I just realized I've been posting on here for almost 5 years now.

hey man dakotas rock and it sucks u be leaving, at least u didnt buy a FORD! trans am's are fast suckers but they use premium fuel and the gas mileage is probably better with them. i had one before i had my truck, that damn car broke down on me at least once a month. fuel injectors to a cracked manifold tranny was leaking once and just a list of problems i bought it with 50K on it and put it up to 86K i loved it though all the hassle. take care

I'm sure if you look back you'll see threads of me about racing someone... or actually about the stupid deer that hit me... So I did just want to let people know... I'm glad to see that someone here understands... Thanks... I'll miss my truck... And I'll miss this site... Sooo many memories... Some very stupid... some very funny... And if the Trans doesn't work out for me... I may just trade it in here in the next few years... for an SRT-10 Ram... Thats a tax right off btw... I just wanted to let some people know... thanks..
