That is what it sounds like, a marble hitting the windshield, over on the passenger side.
Happens occasionally, and can be at warp-speed or slogging through city traffic.
Probably not the glass installation because I've had five or six new windshields.
Anybody else experience this, or is it special to my truck?

Got kids. Maybe something was put in the defrosters or a dash vent.

You usually don't miss. You misread this one.
No, it is a sound like I imagine a marble would make hitting the glass, not metal, at pretty good velocity.

I didn't miss. I was adding to possible reasons. I've never heard this type of sound.

That is what is strange about this. Rocks make a dull sound. this is a sharp sound.

Maybe the thing to do is chuckle, because I have a unique truck.

Could be a rock flipping up and hitting the windshield as mentioned before...depending on the type of rock, size, etc...they can make all sorts of different sounds. I got stuck behind a semi on the interstate a while back that was hauling gravel. Even being probably a good 250 ft back, it still kept bouncing up and blasting off my windshield. No piece sounded the same.

...then I floored it and got past him as quickly as I could. F'kers hauling sh!t like that should NOT be allowed on the road unless they've got their load fully contained.

GB2000,
Here in Caleefornia (little Arnold accent, there) there are many thousand trucks sidelined and towed for failing inspections, leaky haulers included.
All have to have covered loads. It is amusing to see the big transfer trash haulers leaving a trail of litter as it sneaks out from under the canvas and blows away.
By the way, there is less sand, etc. directly behind the truck. Junk tends to blow to the sides, in a 45 degree pattern.

have a 01 and as Shatto says- It sounds like a stone hit on the windshield but no marks. Near as I can pin it down, Its more like the plastic dash is shifting , causing a big pop. Only happens every five to seven days so its hard to trace.
