Subject: O2 performance ?

To anyone with the experience:

Would you benefit from a wide band O2 sensor on a N/A engine? or would that only be good for boost? just wondering since the wideband O2 would provide a more accurate signal than a stock O2.

First off, you can't just install a Wideband sensor. Its output is different and can not be recognized by the stock computer.

If you have made any power mods, it is a good idea to install one just to keep tabs on what your engine is doing. However, if you have no way of changing your fuel curve, all its gonna do is tell you that you are running rich or lean.

thanks, that's what i thought. you would only benefit from having an aftermarket fuel mgmt system. the factory programming can't make sense of what the wideband o2's telling it.

in other words, wouldn't you be wasting money on F/I unless you go whole hog and use a fuel mgmt system?

Some Aftermarket wideband controllers can convert the signal so you can use a wideband in the place of a regular O2. That doesnt really matter for power though because when you hit the gas the computer ignores the 02 because the stock o2 is not accurate at 12.7 to 1 Air/Fuel (Best Power mixture). At 14.7 to 1 A/F (Best fuel economy) a wideband is not much more accurate than a regular o2 sensor.
