I am a dodge fan but looks like Toyota has us spanked

Check out this link:
It says the tundra puts down 321 rwhp. It got a 14.8 second quarter mile time in a double cab 4X4 truck that weighs 5,637 lbs!!! Even though I don't like Toyotas that is very impressive.

The Tundra is a full sized truck tou cant compare it to our Dokotas.Hell the Durangos are almost kicking out that much Power with the Hemis. So lets compare that truck to The SRT or the Ford Lightning.Iam not a ford fan but I would Push A Ford Before Buying a Toyota. If toyota is trying to build a performance truck then there still slacking next to the SRT and the Ford Lightning. They havnt got us wipped not even close compared to Fords and Dodges Power houses!

I am also a dodge fan and don't like toyotas. The tundra isn't built to be a performance truck, it is in the same class as the ram, silverado, f150. I was just stating that 14.8 is fast for a 5600lb 4X4

anyone that thinks the tundra is intended to be a performance truck is an idiot. look at the facts. its designed to tow. rated at 10,800 lbs. i wonder what kind of rear end it has.

If the 4.7 Toyota DOHC engine is really doing that much better than the 5.7 HEMI. Then Dodge needs to throw that piece of sh*t design to the curb and start over!

I always kind of thought the new HEMI was not that great as far as NEW technology goes. RAM 1500's are lucky to get into the 15's with mods around here!

I'm a guy who favors Domestic than Imports. So that's how serious I am about that!
They should do a bigger version of the 4.7 design, add VVT and make something impressive.
Dump that MDS to the curb as well. It's always trouble.

You are correct, it's a 5.7 that puts out 381 Hp. The 321 listed at the top is what they measured on a dyno, which has about a 15% drivetrain loss (give or take what most cars are).

I'm all for competition; it's what drives innovation. My personal preference is for domestic trucks and Japanese cars. Toyota builds some quality stuff though, so I'm not going to rule it out.

I really don't care much for Hp ratings on trucks, I'm not dragging other vehicles anyway. All about torque for me. Dodge's Hemi was tops when it came out (wasn't the 6L Chevy was only for 3/4 ton+?) They have been passed now.

If it's only about power you can get the Viper SRT-10. Or wait until they introduce the 6.1 or 6.4 Hemi in the Ram.

Cummins Diesel gives you the monster torque with better fuel economy.

Yep, its 381Hp and 401 ftbls toruqe! And its got a 6 speed auto.

Now I just wonder what the power rating for a avg pick-up truck well be 5 years from now. Over 500HP??? I think this is just getting ridiculous!

If I am not mistaking, would not a 6-speed hurt you in towing. I would figure that you would not have as much low end power. I figured that the 6-speed would help with gas-mileage and performance, not towing.

How would a 6 speed hurt towing ? I'd think it might have closer ratios, in addition to maybe a higher overdrive; just supposing of course - did you see specs that would suggest otherwise ? The overdrive even in my 4 speed auto has never hurt towing, only goes into overdrive in low load situations anyway. I'd expect every bit as much low end power; maybe more if closer ratios.

I am pretty sure that all that does is prevent it from shifting into overdrive. I still think that the transmission will be too high geared. I do not think that they will be all that amazing. America has been making trucks for over 100 years. That is what we do best.

I didn't realize the Toyota now made a bigger V8
I thought that was a lot for a 4.7, even with VVT, dual runner intake, etc etc.

Like I said in another post. I am pretty sure that at least one size of the Hemi series of motors is going to VVT. Do not ask me how, but it is true.

Shoe - please explain the reason for your belief that the transmission will be "too high geared". I think my explanation is much more plausible; yours seems based on the belief that this is not an American truck ?

Toyota Tundra has a tow/haul mode. It's similar to the overdrive ON/OFF function of the Dakota.
