WHO, who,

has dynoed a stock intake,

then bolted a K&N up, same conditions (temp and humidity), and dynoed theres?

I'd like to SEE a more than a 2hp gain. (even after correcting for drive train loss). I'd never believe it, not on the 4.7 anyway.

I've dynoed many mods, who will do this?

I'm not asking K&N, any independents?

Not me, but I suspect K&N is correct. K&N has been around for a long time, and I think they have a pretty good reputation. If they just wanted to be another player in the CAI scam for the 4.7, they could have released their product right away, like all the other players. Instead, they took quite a while to develop theirs, saying they would not release the product (despite demand for it), until they could dyno a decent gain. I think there was only one other CAI manufacturer actually claiming they could dyno a gain for the 4.7; but that was in conjunction with exhaust work too.

It would be interesting to see someone dyno this, but I think the more important thing to consider is where this increase is claimed to take place - at higher rpms. That's why I passed on it - most of my mods were done for lower rpm gains, where they are more usable in everyday driving and towing.

i have one on my dakota
seemed to make a slight difference
i refuse to put one in my cummins
it does not filter to a small enough micron for the CR cummins

When I get a new truck and start modding it I'll be dyno'ing it...if I think about it, I'll do a pull with a standard paper filter and one with a K&N filter.

GB2000 - are you aware that is not the filter they are making the claim for ?
The claim is made for the FIPK kit that relaces everything before the TB...

Ooooh...nevermind then...I was thinking they were just making the claim on the filter (I haven't seen the ads). I'm not wasting my money on an FIPK kit.

...besides...for those who have the 5.2/5.9's the open element filters look cooler (and they only cost like $20 + the filter of your choice). Might look a lil funny sitting sideways on a 4.7 though...lol

Only problem with the open element filters is you are sucking in a bunch of hot air from the engine compartment rather than cooler air from the fenderwell area.

Cool air = good

Hot air = bad

I still saw pretty big gains switching to the open element...not enough to make it a bad mod. Plus hearing the engine roar to life when I romp on it and making it look like it's got balls when one looks under the hood...yeah...it's worth it IMO. Oh, and it'll be sucking up plenty of cool air when I get my cowl induction hood put on...

Me too. I went with a 14x3 with a Kool Blue filter. It's so damn big it touches the bottom of the hood but I'm not worried about it (not now atleast).
Summer months just remove that "rubber flap" next to the radiator, and you'll get some cool air.
Winter months I have the flap on because especially recently it's been a high of like 25 degrees with a wind chill of -5.
I also think they look cool too!

This is kinda off topic...but I'm trying to figure out why so many people have problems with the 180*F T-stat causing a check engine light in cooler climates...our HIGHS the past week have been under 10*F and my truck has yet to throw a code for "running too cold for too long" or whatever it is that cooler thermostats tend to throw.

Anyway...back on topic...I can't fit a 14x3 under my hood. But when I trade my truck in, I'll get a 14" one since I'm gonna trade up to a 5.2L Dak. I'm planning on going from a 2wd V6 RC to a 4wd V8 ext. cab. Might get a 4.7L Dak if I can find one for cheap enough...then all my intake plans are going out the window.

On my truck, at least, code 17 does not trip the Check Engine light. You'd never know it was there unless you read the codes.

Really? Well hot damn...

How long do codes normally stay stored? I may have to run to Autozone before this cold spell is over and see if it's thrown that code then. Just outta curiosity.
