can anyone tell me why my gas tank on my 03 quad cab has a 24 gallon tank, but when I fill it up, It can only hold 17ish gallons (even with the low fuel light on.) Anyone else with this issue.

I think the gauge is designed that way to help protect the fuel pump. In tank fuel pumps rely on some gas in the tank to cool them. If people constantly drove their trucks down close to true empty, it could affect the life of the fuel pump. If you ran your truck out of gas, I'll bet you could fit the full 24 gallons.

derek, i have an '00 QC with a 24 gallon tank and have run to the empty mark and put 22 gallons in.

the low fuel light comes on at 1/8 mark on my gage. most i can put then is about 18 - 19.

like kowalski said, run it out of gas and i bet it will take all of those 24 gallons.

I tested this on mine thinking I would go further than I ended up going with no spare gas about 5 miles out of town...that was fun. but true I was able to put in the 22 gallons the print out claimed.

Looks like your milage may vary. My 02 QC will consistently turn on the low fuel light at 20 gal, and the most I have filled it up with was 23.6 gal. So mine is pretty much on.

That would be the calibration that varies, not the milage.
