need tips on replacing front shocks on 2000, 4x2. any special tool needed ? had problem getting off upper nut. any replies appreciated. thankyou.

a lot of times the whole shock rotates along with the upper nut. get a good set of vice grips so hold the shock in place and you can get the nut off.

tried vice grips on the rod, but nut wouldn't come off. thanks for reply.sorry about 2 posts, but the first one didn't seem to take, so i did a second one.

After a few years and a lot of miles - especially in salt country - getting suspension pieces apart can be a real trial. It's a whole lot faster and easier to just cut the nut off with an angle grinder.

Penetrating oil applied for a few days and some heat from a torch might help things to loosen up. Also, a dremel tool with a cutting wheel can cut the nut in half like the nut cracker.
