After a few months of searching and growing tired of hangling to no avail for a new 06 or 07 magnum 3.5L for my wife, our search ended tonight.

We picked up a 06 jetta 2.5 with 3946 miles (yep, less than 4k miles) from car max. It has all the similar options to what my wife wanted in the magnum only costing 10k less.

YummY German Engineering. ;)

It's small compared to the magnum (she also looked at chargers but liked magnum more). Her sister has a 2002 VW bug with around 70k miles and also has the manual transmission. She's never had any work done except what the manual has listed for warranty purposes.

The trunk on her new jetta is very big. It's as big as the trunk in her 2001 grand am.

There's alot of nifty creature comforts in the jetta that she didn't have in the grand am. Heated seats, tie downs in the trunk, shopping bag hanger in the trunk, 6 disc cd changer.

And it supports CAN, glad I waited a few days and spend the extra cash for the CAN capable scanner.

VW's suck? I have owned both Dodge an VW since 1987. I have never been left stranded by a VW. I can't say the same for Dodge. My W8 Passat has 270hp while my R/T Dakota has only 250hp.

I wanted a TDI Jetta for the awesome mileage but the wife had to have a dang SUV. So now instead of 38 or so miles per gallon of diesel we get 20 per gallon of gas.

71firebird,
That's what we bought at first. I loved the thing. The first time she had to fill it with diesel she got some on her and that was the end of that. The dealers don't like trading down. So the next car up the financial scale was a Passat. The 1.8l turbo was OK but the engine was just too small for the car. The V6 was acceptable, but it left you wanting more. So we went from a 40mpg Jetta diesel to a 20mpg 8cyl Passat. I drive it more than she does. Heheheh :)

I'm guessing "got some on her" means smeared over her hands. A nice pair of leather work gloves would have solved the fueling issue with the TDI. Many years ago when I owned diesel cars I (and my wife) did fill-ups "gloved" and it was never an unpleasant experience.

A $5-10 pair of gloves is a lot cheaper than a bigger car payment. :-)

What's your left foot doing?

German Engineering?? sorry to say but basically all german cars are over engineered meaning they tend to have problems overall in the vehicle (mainly bmw, mercedes, volkswagen) and when its time to get the problem repaired its highly expensive. I personally would have stuck with a japenese car. im not trying to flame anyone or anything.

Hey Dan, you didn't on the Hemi Magnum. you might can be able to sqeese out 27 MPG if you drive it just rigth. the only thing I don't like about it is the small wind shield. I think the Jeeps have the same problem.

She didn't consider the 300 much, not a big fan on them. The point of the matter is the dodge dealers were not willing to deal at the time we purchased, now they are trying to unload the many 06's they have left on the lot - I was there ready to sign the papers, they just couldn't make it happen. I have no hard feelings about buying a VW.

One dealer said the jetta is not a magnum. I said he was correct .. it is not magnum size, magnum power, but it's also not magnum price, magnum warranty and magnum fuel milage.

Dodge needs to get in the game and offer better than 3/36.

Believe it or not Dan, I could have bought a 05 Chevy 05 Impala for about 10 grand. Nice car. I think it was a SS. But if it wasnt it was still a nice car.
