I have a 99 club cab V6 3.9L RWD sport. No power locks or windows. Rear open window and nearly new tires. Runs great no problems just under 108K. Trans perfect motor perfect. I just recently got a job about45 minutes each way and for what i am using the truck for (commuter) i think that i could get away with a 4 banger anything. I am really torn up on this. The only problem with the truck is that it has bad paint and would eventually need a repaint no biggie. What would you guys pay for a truck like this. Just wondering and weighing options.
Thanks

That sounds high to me. Why not look the value up on KBB.com ? Select private party value. You can also look up what it should be worth as a trade in too.

I used to sell cars for a few years but been out of the mix a bit. We used to hate the KBB because the dealers never go by that they are overpriced. Dealers use the black book of cars. But i figure it may be pretty close to KBB for selling outright. Thanks

Different dealers go by different things - I've always been able to find one who'd give me the KBB value of my trade in. You can look up 3 different values on KBB; the 2 I already mentioned, also dealership sale value. Sounds like you are thinking there is only one KBB value.

no i knew that, but sometimes and im not saying you dont know but sometimes when a dealer offers you a good deal on your trade they kind of shaft you in the back screens ie price of car you are buying or interest so on. But maybe i just have a bad attitude towards dealers being that i have seen some crappy things happen to people. But you could be right about that.

hey im also thinking of selling, (99 V6 Auto Reg Cab, 75,000, with many mods) I KBB it at around $6,700, but I could easily get away with $7,500 with mods they did not option.

I don't think i could go down to an I4. Im looking at a 2001 Stratus R/T. I should get 5-10mpg better, plus I can transport more than 2 ppl

I would sell the truck myself, dealers don't tend to care about mods, infact they can sometimes hurt you. If I did i would probably only get a little over $6,000. The Stratus's ive been looking at go around $9,000.

selling? - I think you have the right attitude toward dealers; they'll take advantage any way they can. I always watch everything very closely and arrange my own loan if I don't like the terms.

I would think $4500-$5000 with the bad paint job.

For the other one, I personally would not buy a car with a lot of mods, but all of the younger guys look for it, and those are the eager buyers. I would think you would only get about $6500 if you sold it yourself, but it depends on the mods you are talking about and the area you are in.
KBB has always been a good reference tool, and usually you get blue book or right under working with private parties. Not too many will pay over blue book, unless they have been looking for that exact vehicle with those exact options.

I tend to agree with Peter on both prices.

The KBB private party prices tend to be a good starting place. The paint is not a huge issue, but will definatly keep you to the blue book or less. If I were you, I would start at 5k, and go from there.

Unfortunatly for you greg, mods on a vehicle are only worth about 1/4 of the purchase price. So if you have 4K worth of mods, you will get about 1k over a stock vehicle. Not to say that you can't get 2k or even 3k for 4k worth of mods, but the few people that would pay it most likely will neve know that you are selling it.

Depending on what you have it might be worth taking them off and selling them separate. Especially if you have the stock piece that you replaced i.e. CAI. On the truck its worth $0, off the truck you may get $100.

The dealers "black book" is a little orange book, about palm sized called the N.A.D.A. book.
The NADA also has a website, print it up and go looking. December 27-31 is the best time to buy a vehicle. A dealer is always screaming and begging to get that last deal in the books for that years tally on sales.
