As a lark I like to go to Dodge's website and configure a new Dakota QC as my 2002 QC is configured. I do this so I can see what changes and options are available, and what the price difference is. I am not interested in moving on, but I just like to know for comparative reasons...

Well, surprise! The configuration screens only allow an ST to be configured with a manual tranny. What!?!?! Is this the future direction DCX is taking? No more sticks in well equiped (SLT) trucks? There are plenty of other surprises, like the Laramie can only have the 3.7 or 4.7HO engine, not the regular 4.7, 3.21 axles, no option for 3.92, 3.55 is only part of the TRX group.

Nothing like having choices when spending thousands of $$$...

What's your left foot doing?

If ive noticed anything about dodge besides their sh!tty transmissions, its that they never had a truck lineup, in the past 12 years(at least) that had very many logical options. i dont know why, they just always have stupid combo's. even my 93 cc v8 auto 4x4. it came with 3.55, ok i can deal with that, but no LSD stock? what a dumbass idea. i had to put one in, to keep the one tire from breaking loose wicked easy. seriously,... what are they thinking? Idiots....

What trucks come with LSD stock ?
I thought this was an option with all makes that offer it ?

Shame to see option choices limited though.

Yeah, special package or option. I wouldn't expect LSD to come without being optioned either.

Story to make your point;
I had a lemmon, not the kind you can get fixd by law, everything eventually broke on the S-13 Sonoma I traded for my Dakota.
I thought about removing it, because GM has neat reading lights incorporated into the mirror. Should have. Cost $135.00 and I could have made it work in the Dakota. As it is I use a baby Mag Lite, held on the mirror with rubber bands because I can't read a map and drive with the dome light on.

With Daimler/Chryslers abilities, there is no logical reason not to be able to flood the marketplace with options. Example: I ordered a 1500, using the Costco program (around $4,000.00 savings) but Dodge would not make me a base truck with anti-lock brakes. They were supplying trucks with anti-lock brakes to Cal Trans and other government agencies, but wouldn't include a civilian sale in the run. They didn't make a sale, and I got to prove a 3.9 automatic is able to go 534,000 miles on the original engine and transmission.

Why are the highways crowded with F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-650 and Chevy and GMC equivalents? Could it be they made the commitment to compete?
What will happen to Dodge when Nissan and Toyota introduce their Diesels and hybrids? Will having a Cummins overcome better overall trucks? Now the Big Three are protected by teriffs, but, Toyota and Nissan are American manufacturers.

Interesting news in the paper today - DC is outselling Ford (they dropped to fourth, behind DC, GM, and Toyota). I won't defend it, but I think part of the reason they don't want to market standard transmissions in higher end vehicles is that they are harder to sell when traded in.
