My dak may not do 150 so easily, but I bet if I hook a strap up to a honda that claims to.. it won't do 150 ;)

A stock Celica engine revs 9,000 RPM's???

Maybe it does, but that sounds kind of far fetched for a stock spam can! That's approaching crotch rocket specs. Yeah, I know they can turn 12k. But most 4 bangers, even with computer controlled cams are doing 7k or so. I think the Honda S2000 did a little over 8k.

Turbo's make a BIG difference. I know someone with a 2.0 Liter Nissan RWD 4 banger. Breaks the 400HP mark with the Turbo at over 20PSI. But it would probably overheat quickly if it ever STAYED there for any length of time!

thats why they have boost controlers.

Toyota Celica GT-S Performance Data Acceleration (mph) 0-30 0-40 0-50 0-60 0-70 0-80 0-90 0-100
Elapsed time (secs) 2.5 4.0 5.2 6.5 9.0 10.9 14.1 17.1
Top speed 137 mph
Quarter mile 15.3 @ 94 mph
Power-to-weight ratio 13.9
Acceleration g-force 0.55g

top speed 137^^^ thats a celica. they may redline at 9k but they dont have the hp to push it to that in 5th gear.

the new civic SI redlines at 7800 stock.

there is just a couple of things that prove my point that a civic can do 150 easy.

Well I still don't actually see the specs that say it redlines AT 9,000 RPM's.
I did see where some peaked in power at 7600 or so, which proves it revs really high.

The 1/4 mile time shows it must not have very much torque though LOL! Once it's fighting the weight it DOES have and the air resistance, it probably looses power significantly.

On another note. As a crazy youth I've driven Station Wagons made in the early 70's to 150MPH. No overdrive, 3 speed auto close to 5,000 Lbs. That's torque I guess. You should feel them suckers float at them speeds!

i couldnt find a redline spec for a celica. and thats the problem with those motors. they dont have any low end. torque is made at lower rpms. well those cars have no power at lower rpms. so they have to be reved out to get it. but once its reved out it isnt in the powerband for torque. thats why most the time imports will smoke a domestic on top end but dog on the take off.

i still give credit to those things though. you can get some seriouse horsepower out of a lil 4 banger. and since they are light weight cars you can get them goin pretty fast.

Give the time and money any engine can be made to go fast.. as ricky bobby says.. look momma, I'm going fast!

I recall GM doing a concept car with a 4 banger that was based on the frame of what became the solstice. I think it was 400hp. I remember reading it in car and driver. If anyone knows what i'm referring to, I'd like to see the specs. I thought it was cadillac but I may be mistaken.
