Subject: pinging in '95 3.9L

I have a 95 Dakota 3.9L with 5-speed that has been pinging for over a year and the problem is driving me insane! I have replaced MAP sensor, EGR valve, intake gasket, tried different gasolines and octane boosters, carbon cleaners. The pinging remains and worsens in hot wheather and heavy load. It pings acceling to highway speed in 4th and 5th gear, and pings in very gear when hot and running A/C. Could the fuel pressure be off? Repair manuals say 35-45psi, but a lot of guys tell me it should be around 50psi. I have 37psi

Try the Autolite 3923's, they did the trick for me. They are a range colder I belive. See speedtweaks.net for more info.

I had talked to a dealer about this same problem and there are also other posts that say stick to 87 octane gas and only use standard resistive plugs not the performance plugs. according to the dealer the daks will ping if the flash point in the cylinders are to high..stay with a low octane fuel for awhile and see if this helps.

when I was up north for the Woodward Cruise, a got to talkin to a mechanic that worked at a dealership and he said that certain brands of gas seem to cause alot of pinging problems, try changing major brands and see if that helps.

Good news everybody, I couldn't find any Autolite 3923's but I did cross them to Champion RC9YC4's. Put those in and a can of Seaform carbon cleaner. Filled it up with super unleaded and haven't heard a noise. I plan to change the t-stat to 180 F later to pick up some power. Thanks for the help.
