Okay, i've been using pennzoil 10w-30 in my '97 5.2 dakota. I
would like to try some synthetic or synthetic blend this time

There's only a few true synthetic oils available: Mobile 1, Royal Purple, Redline, and Amsoil. The rest are a synthetic/dino blend.

I use Mobile 1 in all my vehicles. It's reasonably priced, and easy to get. WalMart usually sells it in gallon jugs for less than $20.

Ky_Man,
Think about the long term in your calculations, also.

I have always used Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 oil, filtered with the Amsoil by-pass filter system. And the transmission has always used Amsoil ATF.
My 98 3.9 Dakota has 540,000 miles on the engine and transmission.

Oh ... BTW did you all know that they buy their base oil from Mobil Chemical Co. --- Chevron and Petro-Canada ? they DO NOT make their own base oil. They also buy their additives from Lubrizol and Ethyl Corporation. They buy esters and Grp-3 base stocks from more than one source. Donaldson makes their oil and air filters for heavy-duty trucks.
WIX makes them for light-duty trucks and personal trucks. seems to me that they don't make ANYTHING themselves ... they just mix ingredients from other companies.

Mr. Crapoil,

You are correct.

Amsoil is not an oil or natural gas drilling and exploration company. Amsoil does not own any oil or natural gas refineries.

Amsoil does blend their oils using the best base oils and additives available in the industry, to our very own specifications. We buy from many suppliers.

Amsoil offers AMSOIL AIR FILTERS manufactured by Donaldson, however we are the ONLY company (via an exclusive agreement) selling Donaldson Filters for the consumer market. Donaldson only manufactures for the heavy trucy industry. We carry WIX as well so that we offer filters for every application. Both are made to our specifications.

I make no apologies.

We use the best ingredients and sell the best filters.

The lawsuit mentioned earlier? - Amsoil agreed to pay for the damages. That makes us a GREAT company that stands behind our warranty. What was the problem? I don't know. However, Amsoil's insurance company refused to reimburse Amsoil for the claim and Amsoil took the Insurance Company to court. Normal business practice.

Anything else you would like to say?

Thank you,

Steven

crapoil .................. trix are for kids.

Royal Purple is a blender just like Amsoil. So are many others.

The same holds true in many industries including gasoline, ethanol, and biodiesel. Tire companies do not own rubber plantations. Most beer companies don't grow their own wheat and barley. Bottled water companies don't create rain. Etc. Dodge does not make their OEM oil or fluids either.

It is no big deal.

Ky_man,
Ought to be obvious to you by now, you get to do more homework. I'll help;

Fact #1.
Any oil that meets specifications will do what the manufacturer wants it to do.

Fact #2.
Within the specifications there is a range of quality and capabilities.

Fact #3.
Any synthetic oil will outperform any conventional oil (yes, nitpickers, there are exceptions, but we don't change oil every 500 miles.)

Fact #4.
Amsoil, in labratoty testing (as opposed to informercials) is compared to and proved better than other oils, synthetic and non-synthetic, in most all cases.

Fact #5.
Click on Steve Roarks link, or GOOGLE the Amsoil Corporate site and see the technical and comparisons for yourself.

Fact #6.
In spite of what our doubting friends say, any company has to be able to back up their advertising claims. I believe you'll discover that is the law.

Fact #7.
Amsoil has been a successful growing business for more than 30 years. You don't do that being a liar; in spite of what the anti-Capitalist, hate America crowd say.

Fact #8.
Today, everybody in the soap business offers 'concentrated' soaps and detergents that are biodegradable. Why? Amway introduced concentrated, biodegradable detergent 40 years ago. Everybody followed.

Today, everybody in the oil business offers synthetic and synthetic blend, motor oils. Why?
Amsoil introduced synthetic motor oil, for automobiles, over 30 years ago. Everybody is following.
