I want some opinions..What are the best shocks to get for a 2wd dakota? I got a 98 v6. I've heard people talk about the edlebrock shocks with the inertia valve but I havent done too much digging. Im not lookin to pay 70 bucks a shock either but I'd still like to know whats best. i would search the pages but I really cant. thanks guys

Another vote for Monroe Reflexes. I'm not sure if they're doing it this year, but in the past they ran a "Shocktober" sale in October where you got 4 shocks for the price of 3.

I put Edelbrocks on my 98 3.9 long bed.
The only time the truck ever 'topped out' and 'bottomed out' on the same bump! Any bump, for that matter.
I have $300.00 of premium shock absorbers in my shed, with less than 200 miles on them.
Stock shocks easily last 100,000 miles and work fine.

well, i got 124,000 on my 98 so it's time. I got the truck by trading my pos '92 explorer, the dakota needed a trans rebuild but worked in my favor. I'm definetly gettin the monroe reflexes..I actually bought the sensatrack before I got back to this post in time but I'm gonna take em back. I thought about getting those edelbrocks but now I'm glad I didn't, thanks again guys, appreciate the info.

00Dak.
You said you had Sensatrak with coilovers on rear. Is yours a 2WD or 4WD?
Mine's a 4WD, and I've been searching for coil-overs for the back of mine, too.
What is the part number of your Sensatrak units?

I've got an '02 QC 4x4 that has handled some decent loads in the bed as well as towed our 5000 lb camper a few times. Needless to say the stock shocks were shot at 60k. After removing them, they looked to be functioning at maybe 10%.

I put in the Bilstein HD shocks and am quite pleased so far. The ride is better than it was brand new. I hope these things last for another 100k of use and abuse.

I put my reflexes on the other day. MUCH BETTER! my stock shocks were shot. I could press the piston it pretty easy and not only that but it hardly pushed itself back out! cant believe they were that bad! but yeah, the reflexes are a nice choice. better traction, better control, espcially around corners, and better braking. im sure a set of bilsteins (or whatever they are) are pretty nice and have awesome performance but I cant afford to drop a couple hundred bucks into some shocks when I can get a lifetime set for less then half that, so what if I have to replace them more often? gives me motivation to check out my front end when they go bad.

If a shock is not air, coils, or gas charged, then I thought it was supposed to collapse with ease, and dampen on the return, to smooth out the ride.

I also have Reflex, but I think they are not as good of dampening as when new, and are gas charged.

Anyone had any trouble getting the Reflex's for a 2wd SXT model? The bottom mount on the front is what I think is called "cross pin mounting" as opposed to "loop mounting" ??? Any help?
