So, I finally go somewhere to get my truck's bushings replaced
to stop that sqweak I posted about earlier. So I go to sears. I
show them the problem to see if they agreed with me if it was
the bushings or not. Lets just say the man looking at it was
more interested in getting my mileage from my truck for the
paperwork than figuring out if it was the problem or not.
And low and behold. IT WASN'T Aparently. They did the job for
$198 and said it was fixed. But NOOO! 3/4ths the way home it
didn't make a noise.....then.....SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!
Let's just say i'm pissed at sears now... the did this same thing
with my ball joints..."ok we fixed your ball joints" (they start
making noise again) "oh, its on the other side too?" "Oh man, we
forgot to lubricate them." No more sears in my area for me at
least. The manager wouldn't even ride in the truck either to tell
what it really was. He just said, "ill find it and fix it"
riiiiiight.
Sorry.... i'm just really pissed right now

Different tasks are best left to different shops. Sears does my alignments, tire replacements and balances, and oil changes very well. Midas and Meineke do a good job with my exhaust and shocks, and also with wheel and alignment stuff.

I don't leave the more complicated stuff to chain shops, they only get to do normal preventative maintenance. If the problem seems to require any analysis, diognosis, or independent thought, I go to a dealer or a trusted independent mechanic.

The guys who work those chain shops usually are taught to do one specific task over and over again, not to chase down and diagnose problems. A tiny minority of them are trained professional mechanics. Some of them are young kids who learned bad habits from other guys who never learned the trade properly in the first place. Most are guys who walked in off the street and got the job right off the bat because they claimed they know how to change oil and tighten a lug nut.

Sears and K-mart are one in the same.I worked for Sears back in 88 and 89.Funny how things never change! Sounds like they took the guys from the K-mart stores and made them service managers in the auto dept. After what I went through with Sears I will never shop there or now at k-mart for that matter.

You think Sears is bad for auto repair, try
Wal-Mart, better known as Wallie World.

Those morons don't even know how to spin balance
a wheel. They told me I had a bent rim and it
could not be re-balanced after a tire repair.
When I walked over to the balance machine I told
them to center the rim and use the correct center
spin on clamp. LOL, what a joke!
