Before I installed my LSD, I could spin my 31's. Now, I cant even powerbrake. Not that i like to burn the tires off anymore, but should my rig be able to do it? If not, whats up. The thing runs great. 93 5.2L CC Auto 4x4 W/3.55:1

Well. Before my LSD I could hit the gas at a dead stop and the (one tire) would not stop until I let off. Now I can hit it and they both spin for s short distance and then go.

LSD really helps. Unless you'r ein the rain/ice. Then you need to use caution. They make them OPEN DIFFS for safety.

That means it's working. SPinning tires is a waste of energy, and indicates loss of traction. The LSD is supposed to improve traction, so the truck just grabs the road and goes.

not only that but now instead of overcoming the force of one set of brakes now you have to overcome the force of 2 brakes, one on each side

Brake torque?

Must be an auto thing.

My truck gets a 6ft posi, 2nd gear burnout on a 1st -2nd shift ~5000rpm.

2nd gear,

1st will totally roast the tires if a I want to.

Putting the helpers on the front on the leaf springs eliminated the wheel hop.

Sorry to hear about the problem of loss of traction with your standard transmission. It's really nice to be able to just hook up and go quickly - maybe an auto for you next time ?

JayB, I have a 93 auto as well. I installed 392 lsd about 3 years ago. I still get a lot of tirespin even with wide 275 tires on teh back and caltracs. I think the reason you dont is because of your lower gear ratio and your larger tires. I have to agree, spinning tires is a loss of power... technically you'd prefer not to do it. Mr Police man doesnt like it either, but I find it fun at times. :-)

Did you adjust your rear brakes when re-assembling things? The reason I ask is I have the same setup (factory installed LSD) in my '95 and had trouble KEEPing traction with stock tires & 31's. It wasn't until I installed 33's with a BL and Susp lift that I experienced what you are talking about. Now they only break loose on wet pavement or right hand cornering. 3.55s are geared plenty low enough with the V-8 to break tires loose. That is the beauty of these (V-8 powered) Daks...they have MORE than enough power in stock form!!!

"traction" probably also doesn't understand about the "right foot steering" that comes standard when you have LSD and a stick.

It's a stick thing, you wouldn't understand.

I do understand actually, but I would much rather grip the road and feel the acceleration than burn off my tires. That was my point.

the reason i ask, obviously, is because others say how they easily spin theirs. however, i cant spin mine, without trying really hard. but yet my engine runs fine.

Sometimes that right foot steering feature on LSD equipped standards can get you in SERIOUS trouble with Mr. Policeman.
Use at your own descretion.
On topic jayb I'm like Texas Todd I can smoke the tires to flames in my Dak '03 4.7 standard 3;91 LSD and get a really good strech of black on second and third upshifts. But I've also got a ram with 31's and 3;91's and it barely spins from a 2000k clutch dump so it just means your getting good starting traction.
