Message:
When i get into my truck after its been either sitting over night or a half a day i start it and it starts, revs up to around 1500 to 2000 and then kills, and it does this a few times in a row, it will then eventually stay running but i can hear clicking that sounds like from under the hood that i believe is something electronic. after i start driving though it will be fine except the idle sounds really weird. Anyone have any ideas or have this happen to them? Its a 89 3.9 5 speed 2wd w/140,000 miles.

Could be sticky Idle Air Controller, maybe. It's integral with the throttle body, but can be removed for careful cleaning.

How old is your battery ? One of the first signs of low voltage to the PCM is loosing idle memory.

battery is very strong. I dumped sea foam into the throttle body to clean that and same thing. It will also shake when its at idle in traffic and idles high around 900.

Probably your IAC, like DASH said then - and dumping seafoam into the TB isn't likely to clean it well. You'll need to take the TB off for better access. Don't twist the plunger, or you'll ruin it.

where exacley is the IAC? and what is the plunger? Sorry if i sound dumb, im used to carbs. I haven;t done any tune up stuff at all except fuel filter and air filter. Iv been driving the truck for around 9 months and it sat for about 4 years before that so it would be a good idea. plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor sounds good.

i don't think the TBI has an IAC. could be the EGR giving you trouble.

i just did plugs and wires and at first it actually sounded worse but now its the same as it was. Also i noticed the little ground that goes from the battery to the fender and meets another ground from the harness was broke so i crimped a new end on but didn;t seem to change anything. haven;t done cap and rotor yet but im thinkin it might be something else besides them. the egr seemed fine but not sure.
