lmfao gen1dak! So true!

...as far as laser goes, like mentioned above, it's line-of-sight. So the cop has to aim the gun at you, which he can't do while driving. For those with laser detection...ever notice when your laser detection goes off, the cop is always pulled over while doing it (often times they're even standing outside the vehicle while lasering). Another downside to laser is the fact that it doesn't work in fog/rain/snow/sleet, etc. It throws off the beam or something like that.

However, if a cop does laser you...generally you're screwed if you're not already on the brakes.

gen1dak...... yes I was there and read most of there litature. I am impressed no doubt. I simply stated my bell has yet to let me down. has great range. Most of the time I never turn it on simply because our speed linit is 75 and I drive 78-79 MPH on cruise. I get no tickets at that speed. I'm convinced the valentine is a better unit and again I can't warrent buying one because I'm getting great reactions from my Bell. If it ever gives up the ship I will buy a valentine.

Theres no laser guns with the ''moving mode'' yet and they cant use it thru windows too. They have to use it outside of the car. What cops like about laser is that they can choose the car they shoot and thats why they use it most of the time on highwhays. If you are worried about laser get a laser jammer. Radar detectors are praticaly useless against laser . Sometimes you can pick up a scatter from cars in front of you and have time to slow down before they shoot you but its a rare scenario.

i was driving down a main highway thru town once and there was a motorcycle cop and a cop car both using handheld radar/laser/whatever. a quarter mile down the road was about three cop cars waiting for people to speed back up after they pass the first group. har. your radar detector will beep, you'll think its the first group, pass em and speed back up and wham! ticket.

heh.

such a simple way to get past most detectors - relying on the user to be too reliant on the detector.

even with the help of a detector you still need to remember to use your brain!

The Valentine would tell you about the cops ahead, including how many more radar signals. Picks them up way before they can pick you up.
Always a good idea to read the traffic too though.

OBIO3, just to be clear, I wasn't saying anything about the Bell. My point was, the site wouldn't be advertising other models for sale, though it does mention the other models used in the radar tests. The first unit I had was the BelTronics Vector waaaayyy back in 1989. It was excellent, and amazed me with what it could do, especially since my previous experiences were when I was a kid and dad borrowed a FuzzBuster (anybody remember those?) from a friend for a trip. I routinely would get alerts while others would have a nice big green "all clear" light as they passed, or even sitting at a stoplight. It was the first detector to beat The Escort...broke a 10-year (or slightly longer) reign. Honestly, as it seems with so many things, the early versions actually seem more capable than later models in sheer sensitivity. That old Bell was absolutely incredible. I used it til it quit working...about 5 years. That unit was tops for about 3 years. It was during that time that Cincinatti Microwave started having some internal friction, and this spurred Scott Valentine to leave to pursue his own goals. He didn't like what was happening in the Escort/Passport development dept. That's why the V1 exists today. If the Bell suits your needs, that's cool by me. I'm not trying to twist your arm. Just info from an owner.

OH YAAAAAA . The FUZZBUSTER lol. I also had one. At the time I thought it was really something but it also went off at every electric door, every trucker, cars and anything else that gave of a signal including bridges. I kinda went nuts in time and sold it in a garage sale. Then some time later I went to the whistler. and a couple more of those as they improved. then the bell came along and I am well sadisfied with it knowing the valintine is a better unit. But as I said. Mine does a great job and I can't justify a valintine as yet

Yeah, the Bells are pretty good; but in a "Car and Driver" test the Valentine scored 97 out of 100 - with Passport 8500 scoring second at 73 and Bell third at 61. Anyone looking to purchase might prefer the detector that scored an "A" to one that scored a "C" or "D", if they can afford it - and with the price of tickets also affecting insurance surcharges for many of us, this could pay for itself with the first ticket you avoid. I had a "fuzzbuster" too years ago.

psst - gen1 - "Scott" Valentine's name is Mike...

Cobra esd-9110 - never had any problems yet, although i drive with due caution. 10-15 over on the highway not in traffic etc... i find good reception of laser and radar, over hills, and a good distance away. and now that i think of it, i don't remember using my detector for a long time. oh yeah, and it's got city/highway mode, and smart mute. they help to eliminate the eletric door and security system beeps.

I've always run on the most sensitive modes, and mentally made note of local store fronts/electric doors, etc. I'd also make note of the signal strength in said areas, because I have noticed that certain cops will position themselves in these areas. Perhaps they hoped to hide in plain view, as it were, but the stronger signal warning would cause me to take notice. However, since having the V1, I also get a visual display showing how many radar signals are hitting me, and this serves as an even earlier warning as to a possible speed trap (normally 8 signals, but today there's 9. Hmmmmm). Ironically, it's at a major intersection in town, not on open road. It is, however, a place where 55mph gets chopped down a lot (state hwy going through town) and you can get busted easily as you're slowing down to the lower in-town speeds.

Get a Valentine 1. Its the best there is and you'll love it once you have it. If you dont like it you can send it back or sell it, they retain their value. Ive actually seen them sell for more on ebay than orginally bought for! (This is stupid, please dont follow this trend).

I paid $359.99 for a 'vacation detector' direct from ValentineOne. They are the returned detectors that people have decided to send back. Mine appeared BRAND NEW and works great, still has the full warranty and saved me $40 over the regular full price of $399.99. When i called they said Vacation detectors are in limited supply as someone has to return one before they can send it to you. I got put on a waiting list and told it would probably be a month or two because none were showing up in-stock in their computer system. It showed up at my door in 3 days!!! Works great, the arrows are spectacular and have saved me multiple times. You can also upgrade your detector when new features/technologies come out so its never obsolete like all the other detectors out there.

Lots of good info at radarbusters forum. Read up there.

Haven't heard of that company, but I've heard the jammers could be illegal - we have the right to receive radio frequencies; but not to generate frequencies that will interfer with devices that receive those signals. They probably won't know its you in a string of vehicles; but if you're alone and they're stuff is jammed, you could be bagged. I've never seen the need for one of these running a Valentine.

Yeah, with jammers, they're illegal to use in many states... I believe you can get around it with an amateur radio license (depending on the frequencies the jammer operates on),but that'd be about the only way. And they'll throw the book at you for using them if you get caught.

I've never heard anything good or bad about that Phazer detector...never heard testimonials or anything. Just heard ads on the radio from the company saying if you get a ticket while using it, they'll pay for it. But honestly I don't care about paying for a ticket...I'd care more about paying for my jacked up insurance rates.
