Does anyone know roughly how much a dealer PCM reflash runs? 2000 Dak 4.7L 4x4 Auto.

I'm considering having it done due to my truck missing some idling steps at cold startups. Starting to get really irritating now that it is starting to get cooler out.

Why don't you put the money you'd spend for a dealer (re)flash and put it toward a Superchip tuner? You would get better programming, and flexibilty that the stock PCM doesn't provide.

What's your left foot doing?

I don't think you need a re-flash for that problem. Just try a reset and see what happens. Disconnect neg. terminal and hold key to staart position for 15 - 20 seconds. Then re-connect and give it a few days to relearn your driving habits. That may cure your problem.

I am *thinking* the problem I am having ties into the "Idle stepping" problem the 4.7L Jeeps sometimes have when they do a cold crank. I've had the problem for a year, but haven't had the money to get it fixed. Tried resetting, etc. Even bought a new battery a few days ago. Old one started leaking a bit of acid for some reason. So, I think it is either a screwy PCM or a bad IAC. I've already cleaned the IAC, but really don't want to blow the $70 on a new one. Wish I had a working pull somewhere to test.

I considered the Superchips tuner, but right now I am laid-off and money is very tight. I'm not sure if the Superchips would solve the problem anyways. It does it after it sits a while (12+ hours). After about 10 seconds after cranking it starts to idle rough and sometimes almost stall out (every now and then it actually does stall). After that intial crank though it runs fine. After it idles rough for a little bit the RPMS will kick back up and then be fine. Very weird stuff. It also seems to do it worse when it is cooler out. The big reason I want to get this fixed is I'll probably be moving up to NW Indiana and am afraid what the -20 degree winters will do to it.

Throttle Position Sensor has also been replaced due to a problem I had earlier with it. I really hate quirky problems like this because they are so hard to pinpoint.

Oh, and to add to this whole novel I just typed: It doesn't kick up any codes. Either on the OBD plugin test or on the instrument console. If anyone lives anywhere near Atlanta and is feeling generous enough to flash my PCM with a Superchips, please let me know. :D

Be careful of dealer flashes.
I had them flash my 2000 4.7 and I lost performance due to the now well-known "DEATH" flash. At the time I didnt know about this. It retards the timing so you loose power. It's very noticeable.

The best thing to do (I did) is get a Superchips tuner. It will remove the "DEATH" flash (if installed) and give you 3 levels of performance.

Hmm.. Thanks for the info. I may end up just dealing with the weirdness till I can get another job and tuck back $300 or so. Does a Superchips reprogram the entire PCM or just certain portions?

I'm trying to talk my credit card into letting me get a Superchips. If it is so all-around helpful and can be seen as more of an "investment" than a toy, then I can probably see to getting one. Heck, if it can help to save my sanity in regards to this idling, then that would be worth it in itself. Honestly, I have yet to hear a bad comment about the Superchips programmers..

Where is a reputable place to buy one?
