Need some advice please. 95 dakota 3.9 v6 R134a. My ac blows air that is not cold. I bought the recharge kit. checked the pressure it was around 20psi filled to the recommended level of 45psi, compressor clutch engages when pressure reaches 45 then drops to 0 then back to 45. air is still not cold. with the air on max, the clutch engages and disengages several times per minute. i tried adding more refrigerant, the level never went past 45 util i turned off the ac. the level then went to 65psi this is obviously too hi so i bled down to 45psi. my ac still blows air that is not cold. any suggestions. I read an earlier entry stating that the compressor kicking on and off several times a minute indicates low refrigerant. do I need to evac the system and refill or could there be another issue here? thanks for the help.

LOL... when they said 45 PSI (approx) they meant with the clutch engaged and blower on HI.

When the clutch stops, the "static pressure" will be approx surrounding temperature. So say it's 90 degrees outside and inside the Dak, the approx pressure of the HI and LOW side after it equalizes will be 95 PSI or so. It don't matter if you have a full charge or half the charge in the system. It you turn everything off, the pressures will all go to the static pressure vs. the ambient temperature unless you have almost no refer in the system, then the pressure will be lower. That is why they use referigerant in aerisol cans. It maintains the same pressure in the can (per the ambient temperature) no matter if it's 100% full or 25% full until the very end.
Don't matter if it's a CFC refer or propane/Isobutane. All referigerants.

Ruling out that you don't have a restriction in your Expansion Valve, you probably still didn't have enough refer in it. WHen you added some and it went over the low pressure cut in setting the clutch was engaged. Once the compressor runs and it's still very low on charge, the low side drops below the low pressure switch cut-out setting and stops the compressor. Then the static rose and turned it back on again. All normal.

Add more refer and once you get closer it will stay above the low cut out pressure. :)
ANd once it stays on monitor the temperature of the suction line coming out of the cab back to the compressor. That will be the larger line. Without using a temp probe liek I would use, just add little by little until that gets "beer can cold" :p

Your charging it with the ac on and set for high right? The gauge will drop with the compressor running but not drop to zero if it charged. See if you can get the system to take more 134-A if the gauge is droping to zero it should take more 134-A just by the fact the can has more pressure than the low side ... up to like 2 pounds is the max for the system ( i think ). Dont worry about the pressure with they system off.... the high and low side will balance to the same pressure and be above 45
