Can someone help me understand why someone would lift a 2 wheel drive truck. I just purchased one and can not figure out why someone would lift one. I would have bought a 4 wheel drive if I wanted to lift it. Are these people just 4x4 want to be's or is there a logical reason for this???

I for one am planning on lifting my 4x2. The reason. 4x4's use more gas, more parts to wearout and break, but most importantly i needed a truck imediately and there were no 4x4's. Also with a v8 i have plenty of torque and hp to do light to moderate off roading. But thats just me

I am also planning on lifting my 4x2!!

Don't get me wrong, I can see your point, Staron, but I do A LOT of racing (motocross, trucks - on and offroad) so I know what a 2wd can do.

Aside from the looks, a lifted 2wd can do just as well (if not better) in off-road applications (look at the "pre-runners" in Baja CA). However, I know that in other cases nothing will out climb my Jeep on the rocks or in HEAVY stuff. It just depends on your needs. So it really isn't as crazy as you might think it is to lift a non-4x.

As for my QC Dak, I won't be doing any REAL heavy off-roading in it so 2wd works better for me (gas mileage, maintenance, insurance, etc...)

Hope this helps, these are just my opinions and others may disagree. All-in-all, do what works best for you!!

I too seriously want to lift my 4x2. I live in Eastern Oregon, but can't afford a 4x4 right now, and for the off-roading i do, the 2 wheel drive is good, just get stopped by clearance. Now if i just had the money....

Most 4x4 drivers can't drive off-road anyway. They think it is cool having that sticker on their truck. Someone who knows how to drive off-road in a 2wd truck would be better off than someone who doesn't know in a 4wd.

I dunno, has anyone here ever thought about lifting a 4x4?? I did!! I seriously haven't lost any milage or done hardly anything under the hood. I still get 19.7 miles to the gallon w/ my v8. I know what your saying about how some people are just stupid when hey don't take advantage of their 4x4. Man, the first day I had mine ouot there, ya know, to break it in.

P.S. i don't recommend the 3" lift for any other 4x4 dakota though. It seriously is a lot of maintence, if I could go back, i would have got a 4x2 and been just as satisfied with the lift.

Prerunner that bad boy!
Check out some kits from Fabtech. They offer
lift kits for 4x2 trucks.
Wheel travel can become an awesome 13
inches!
Reasons for lifting a 2x4? because there is no
fron diff, ground clearance is maximized.
As long as you have posi and a winch, you
should have noo troubles off road.
