Subject: Why would someone do this to their Dak??
IP: Logged

Message:
When I first saw this Dakota, very similar to mine, I thought "What a NICE looking 4X4 Dakota!"

This picture taken through the mirror with my camera phone.

The truck is a Gen III QC 4X4. Has a nice lightbar on the front. It look sto have slightly bigger than stock tires. Looks maybe to also be lifted slightly.
So far so good. Looks good and nothing rediculous with the lift.

Then you notice it has large R/T logos on the rear and fenders!
WTF????

WHY would someone with an otherwise really nice Dak do something so damn STUPID to it???

I know I may catch flack for this. But this guy needs to loose them R/T badges. Leave the false badges for the ricers in the FWD cars!

Alex,
GraphiteDak doesn't live in North Dakota...try Arizona. lol

You know what would be funny...if it really WERE an R/T and they lifted it and put all-terrain tires on it. =P

The R/T badges were probably part of a package deal with the euro tail lights :) To each his own... There is no such thing as a necessary mod, some are practical, some are not, but none are necessary... badges are just less practical than others. Sadly, dodge does make a 4x4 R/T Durango, so I see no reason why this one could not have been replicated to create a Quadcab version. And judging by the cleanliness of the truck, it probably spends more time on the "R & T" than it does on the sand and rocks. Over all I think it is a good looking truck, but what do I know... only mods I have are a K&N air filter and contractor racks....

Years ago, maybe in Motor Trend, was a picture of a Chrysler car that came from the factory with a Dodge Badge on one side and a Plymouth badge on the other.

Couldn't be a lifted R/T for the fact it's a QuadCab. Nice lookin truck though... I did see a pic of one I forget where but it's a 4x4 clubcab with the R/T badges on it. Either through autotrader or consumer guide...one of the stock pics so no idea. Ok I found this pic through yahoo but it's the same pic I've seen. http://www.irancar.com/images/Gallery-larg-1024-768/Dodge/dodge_dakota_rt_1998_01_m.jpg

My local Stealership had a "supposed" marroon R/T QuadCab sitting on the front lot back in early 2000-2001. The factory sticker in the window even listed it as an R/T from the factory with a few dealer add-ons like undercoating and the other li'l useless stuff they add. Seems like it retailed out for just under $30k.

Didn't some of the Quadcabs come with a 5.9? Maybe a few just got stickers from the factory?

Having the 5.9 would be one thing. BUT it does not make a 4X4, especially a LIFTED one a R/T.

A R/T Dakota (Road and Track) had tighter suspension and some other things done by the factory. Defenitely NOT a 4X4. It's the complete opposite! Kind of like, but not as bad as this V6 Mustang I saw yesterday. It had BIG pipes out the back (and obviously a V6) and a big fat GT-R logo on the trunk. A real GT-R was a S/C 5.4 stripped down for the track by the factory. Ravcing seats, no A/C, etc.. BUt some peopel think they can by decals at AutoZone ab=nd plaster it on anything hoping everyone else is as dumb as they are I guess :(

This guy had a NICE truck. That's what don't make sense. Why would he want to imposter an R/T when his truck was very nice for a 4X4QC?

Ok got me there...dunno just trying to figure it out. Maybe he's got the 5.9 and wants people to know it...or he's just confused. Is a nice lookin truck though. When I paint mine and god knows when that'll be I'm gonna have everything taken off...no badges no nothin.

Now THAT would make sense.

Now it would be a fine line if someone had a CC 2WD Dak, made mods to the suspension and the likes. Then added the stickers because it would be pretty much an R/T model so to speak. But the R/T decals on a 4X4 is as bad as 4X4 stickers on a R/T LOL!!!

Technically, the GenIV trucks RT option is a 4x4. I think now you can get it in a 2wd for 2007. Not the same type of package though. Mainly decals and a fake hood scoop. Given DCs current take on what the RT package means on a Dakota, he would have every right to put the RT badges on a lifted 4x4. Still dumb, IMO.

Well if you looked at it THAT way since DC screwed upt he gen IV with a 4X4 R/T, but those of us that KNOW better KNOW that they didn't make one for a Gen III.

Around here I don't see too many people with NICE vehicles do the false badge thing. It's usually on really messed up (from mods) vehicles driven by south-of-the-boarder types in Phoenix. Then you see GTR, SS, etc logo's on Dak's :(

I know that there were 2001-2004 4x4 Durangos with the R/T package, I am not suggesting that it makes sense, but I know of several factory, US model R/T 4x4 Durangos. The driver of the truck has a great paint job, cool lift, cool brushguard, and it obviously looks mainly for show. The cheapest way to get looks in general is badges.... if you put the wrong badges or should I say, an unlikely badge on a vehicle, everyone will look at it and talk about it. And for a vehicle with features used primarily for show, isn't this kind of attention precisely what he was going for in the first place. I say bravo to the guy. He could have spent another $5K on a supercharger and mamouth lift, but hell he would have never even made it on a post. :)

I think they only had the 5.9L option in one year of the GenIII 4x4 options.. It was 2003 if I remember correctly? It was never badged as an R/T though.
