 Subject: Dimmer switch blues

Have a '95 SLT (5.3 Magnum,4x4) with a problem that seems to be common: the low beams go out when the dimmer switch is activated to go from hi-beams to low (hi-beams ALWAYS come on okay). Heard this might be a problem with a retaining screw in the assembly; does this sound right? Just today I tried to take the crummy assembly apart and decided to quit before I went insane. If there is a simple fix like a screw that needs tightening (happened in my '76 Dodge) then I'll do it, but can anyone tell me HOW? Thanks for any and all help.
