Consumer Reports says that Fram makes a great filter. I would like to read those reports you refer too. Can you post a link with those reports ? Then I would switch too. I have five vehicles and have never had a problem with Fram. My Mazda had 250k before I sold it and I used nothing but Fram.

I don't have the link right now but if I remember right C.R. thinks a filter need only to filter down to 40 microns. I don't think they care about how bad your engine rattles at start-up due to a bad anti-drainback valve or other features of poor design or bad construction. I've seen way too many engines that had visible bits of stuff in the oil and on the parts while working on them. All had the orange Fram on them also. A friend of mine has a Pontiac 4 banger that has a magnetic timing sensor or something of that sort in the engine. It wouldn't stay running and finally quit running altogether. After tearing our hair out thinking it was the computer and other things we came across this sensor and found it covered in tiny metal particles. We cleaned it off and it worked perfectly. This engine had the oil changed every 3,000 on the nose and used Fram filters. Needles to say, it now uses AC or one of the Wix family and has had 60,000 trouble free miles. From time to time he checks the sensor and it is doing well now that it has a better quality filter that actually catches debris. I personally like something that can catch 10-20 micron particles so I use premium filters.
