Hey folks, any of y'all had any experience with this vehicle ?? I'm "considering" trading off my 04 Quad Cab and right now this is the vehicle I'm considering...Yea, gas is one of the reasons, as well as me not honestly utilizing the "truck" part of my truck enough so just looking to save money in ther long haul....
Anyhow, 2006 Pontiac Vibe is what I'm considering and just wondering if y'all had any personal info about them...Thanx a million and God bless, Marty

Yea, I like the "Toyota" part of it and like the fact they're offering to sell it to me at $3000 off MSRP, but just not sure how it rides on a 2-4 hour trip,etc....I'm just finding it harder and harder to justify keeping the truck, even though I know I'll regret ((in various ways, but not $$$$)) getting rid of it...

Good luck moving from a truck to a SPAM can with 4 wheels. :P

Those things are small like Saturns.
I think small cars are the lowest of the food chain as far as accidents with other vehicles.

My bro and sister in law have a Matrix. He swerved (for an imaginary cat) and hit the curb of a sidewalk and rode on top of it. Somehow that practically TOTALLED the front of the car and it was being repaired for over a month before they got it back!

The ONLY advantage I think would be gas MPG over the truck.
But then again, I don't use my Dak or pay for my gas to drive to work :)

Not trying to talk smack. It's just my .02 that's all

Think about it for a minute.
What's the trade-off here? You're going to pay many thousands for this new vehicle. How long will it take to make up that amount in what you would have paid for gas for the Dakota in the same length of time?

Strange that this topic comes up while my S/O and myself are looking to replace an ancient 87 Nissan. We've driven the Vibe, Matrix, Honda Accord & Civic and the Caliber.
The only car I really liked and would seriously consider buying was ... the Dodge Caliber.
It had most all of the passenger features the rest had plus it's offered in an AWD configuration.
It drove much better than the Matrix and the Vibe however around Seattle it's almost impossible to find this car.
Personally partial to the AWD R/T version the tranny not shifting takes some getting used to...
The only reason I'd not buy the car is it's still 1st model year....

My posts seem to be not getting posted or I'm messing it up but here goes again......I've driven the Civic, Vibe, and Caliber, and out of the 3 the Vibe just feels like the better built car overall....The Civic actually might be a tad better "built" but theres no room in the thing for anything but people. The Vibe and Caliber are similar as far as room goes but the Vibe just seems to have better made materials and less cheap plastics everywhere..I haven't done anything yet due to loving the truck but if gas hits the $3.00 I'm gonna have to get something else.....And josh, it would take about 2yrs to nreak even again in all the trade/buying new,etc..business....

when you consider the original cost you paid for the truck vs. the trade in value, the cost of the new car, plus its deminishing value the second you drive it off the lot, the difference between 10-15mpg better, I can't possibly see you could make up that difference in 2 years unless you drive 40K miles a year or more... and at that rate, your trucks value would have lost well over $10-15k in value from what you bought it for....you may have been able to figure out a loophole that I am not thinking of, but on average it takes owning a car 10 years in order to justify the mpg arguement. I own a quadcab and trust me, I feel your pain, I get about the same gas mileage as a 3/4 ton ram for some reason but I cant see the financial benefit of trading in my truck and buying a car. When you run the numbers it just doesn't work out... and if you are buying brand new and making payments, interest rates are not like they were a couple years ago. Plus if you are used to driving a truck, I know in a few weeks I would be kicking myself for buying a little car.

hey dude. i used to own a 1998 dakota 2wd....traded it in for a compact car( no need to tell you which one, so i don't look like a complete idiot.)anyways, as soon as i drove it off the lot and home, i said to myself, " what have i done?" you won't get used to being so low to the ground for quite a while. I traded in that junk for a 2004 dakota 4x4 SLT plus and love this truck! i'd say don't do it, but if you do, check out the caliber first.

Hey mccamp, ur probably mostly right in ur adding all the numbers up...I will get about $500 more than I owe for my trade which would be good; the Vibe ((if that would be what I went with)) I could get for right at $16000, with sticker being $19200, and yea, lowest interest rate I can find "today" would be right at 6.75% and my Dakota I got at 4.9% so..........would lose there......And again, I DO love "Catfish" and hope gas prices stop going up 'cause there isn't a better truck in the world but just hate stopping at the pump every couple days and putting $20 in it......Thanx again for all y'alls help and advice; it's tremendously appreciated !!!

Costco has an excellent Car buying program.
You can save a bunch buying new, AND they finance both new and used.

Tell ya what guys; them Calibers sure look good on the outside but they are some really cheap feeling cars on the inside and when driving them...Everything inside is hard plastic with really no "cush" provided. I did like the way the gauges were set up and the height of the car, but the thing is just cheap. And the arm rest will NOT stay still when you put ur arm on it ((I tested 3 the dealer had)), and if you move it (arm rest) forward you don't ahve any room to put a drink cup in the rear cup holder. I'm really kind of upset because it is/was my 2nd choice next to the Vibe but now I'm not sure. Still love the truck and still having 2nd thoughts but still feel I'll save money in the long haul..I owe $14300 on my truck, will get $14800 in the trade; MSRP on car is $19100, will get it for $15800; insurance is $15 less per month; gets twice MPG as truck....BUT, still torn and gotta be SURE it's what I want/need to do. And thanks for the input folks. I know it's a Dakota site and I do love the truck, but gas is hurtin' now..Oh yea, any my finance aPR now is 4.9% and can get 6.5% on new one...So some accountant fella help me out on all this ok......Thanx a million !!!!!

You might want to check the new and used prices at Edmunds.com. They have a good new car pricer that lists invoice and what price you should be getting given the car, the market, and the incentives.

Yea Lurkin, trust me buddy; I've been livin' on Edmunds and a few other sites..That's where the Vibe came in on top. Might not be a "better" vehicle but they sure don't mind taking $3000 off invoice while Dodge won't take anything off invoice on the Caliber. Of course the Caliber is new and is already a less expensive car initially, so......Who knows what I'll do. Right now gas is stickin right at $2.65-$2.75 and I'm gonna "try" maybe and keep the truck until I see the price trickle up again...Thanks for the input.

Not a problem. You'd mentioned $$$$ of MSRP earlier and I wanted to make sure that you were working off invoice and not MSRP.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal, just need to decide car or truck, and pay for gas, or pay for car....
