Recently started having troubles with the brakes on my 2002 4WD club cab dakota. While applying the brakes the truck begins lurching forward and back, the severity is different depending on speed and braking pressure. Sometimes it is worse than others. The truck has 58,000 miles, the front rotors(warped while deployed overseas) were replaced along with the pads in August 2004. Nothing has been done to the rear drums. Has anyone encountered the lurching problem and what is the fix if any?

Sounds like you have ABS failure . A friend just went through this. That ABS unit was 1,100 bucks not to mention he got it through his brother in law who is a dodge dealership

So many problems .... So little time

I would check the brake booster first.

Hello there, before you jump to an expensive conclusion like the ABS unit, try this.... Find a desserted area, like an empty parking lot. Bring er' up to about 35-40 MPH and with your hand HOLDING the parking brake release open SLOWLY start to apply the parking brake with out using the brake pedal. What this will do is tell you if you have warped drums in the rear, that will cause an odd sensation, sort of like warped rotors, but it will feel as if something is tugging your rig from the rear. If your problem is still there, than you know that it is in the back as you have just isolated the brake system. And, for a problem like this, I wouldnt worry about the booster, the only thing that your booster does is, well, boost the pressure of your foot against the master cylinder. the booster will not cause an issue like this. If your booster were to be going out, your pedal would be rock hard and no matter how hard you jammed on the brakes, your truck wouldnt slow down very well. Hope this helps man!!! Just my .07! BTW, I am not trying to sound like a know it all, this is just what I did for 7 years, a brake and alignment tech...
