I was curious to know what you guys thought about removing the air snorkel between the air filter and grill on your dakota? I removed the plastic piece in the grill that was blocking the snorkel, and then just went all out and removed the snorkel thinking maybe I could get a bit more power having less restrictions on air getting in the engine.
I've noticed a hot metal smell occasionally after I drive for a while, and I was beginning to think maybe it was coming from the hot engine air the truck was breathing. Not sure though...is it a bad idea to not have the snorkel on? Or doesn't it make a difference?
Thank you for your input.

Me thinks DC engineers spent a lot of time, energy, and $$$$ to figure out what we carport engineers would take off first. Looks like they were pretty close.

Hey Maddsnare.
It would help us answer your question if we knew what year and engine you have. Different years and engines have different intake configurations.

My 98 box had a plastic snorkel that turned right into the fender well. I removed it, ran stainless dryer vent flex pipe to the opening I made in the rubber next to the radiator. Looks cool! Makes no differance in performance! Collects an unbelieveable amount of crud!

Sorry Needmoreinfo...
My truck is a 1993 5.2L
I also owned a 95 3.9 at one time, and when I bought that truck, the snorkel was off also. The guy gave it to me just in case I wanted it, and it was custom made by him...I wanna say it was dryer vent material like mentioned above, lol.
