Subject: where to buy inch/lb torque wrench ?
IP: Logged

Message:
I can't find an inch/lb torque wrench.
I need 0-100 inch/lb to do the plenum gasket replacement with the Hughes plate.
I've been to Lowes, Home Depot, Northern Tool, and Sears.
The closest I got was at Sears, a 25-250 inch/lb.

Thanks
zzark

No idea whats wrong with a wrench going from 0 to 250. This could be desirable for other projects. I took a look on ebay . Try this in ebay. It is what you want.

NASA USED CDI 3/8" DRIVE INCH POUND TORQUE WRENCH!
Item number: 4451148499

Obio3,

That was quick.
I looked on ebay, but got more than I could digest.
How did you find that one so fast?

Thanks

If you have a torque wrench that is in foot pounds already available, just divide the inch pounds of torque needed by 12 to get foot pounds.

Yes, I know. But 100 foot pounds is 1200 inch pounds, and on a 150 foot pound wrench, you can't accurately measure 12-84 inch pounds.

zzark..... I just typed in exactly what you needed..... ( 0 to 100 inch pounds torque wrench ). it was the only one came up. I seem to have my best luck locating things on ebay if I type it exact. other wise I get a ton of things to shuffle through.
Have a good day

The one from Sears will get the job done. Unless
your looking for the dial type, not the clicker.

You could get one "off the truck" ( Snap-on, MATCO,
MAC, CORNWELL)but you'll pay good $$$ for one. The
ones off the truck, least the dial type, come in
1/4" & 3/8".

I have one you could buy that's like brand new. Only used it to torque the headbolts down on a small twin cylinder lawnmower engine (Briggs). If you are interested in buying it, let me know @ nineinaday@hotmail.com

Dude I hear ya. I bought an inch Lb wrench and it don't even go low enough for my needs.

I always have to use my NEEDLE type (not the clicker type) Foot Lb wrench and calculate the inches into Lbs and use that.

And the last thing I just used it for was on my bro in laws Belly Pan plate from Hughes last weekend!

And on his intake as well. That is some torquing sequence by the way. You have to gradually increase the rating on the intake and that takes a while.

The easiest and fastest place to find an In-Lb Torque wrence is Sears. Most Sears stores have a large selection of mechanics tools in the tool section. This wrench will set you back about $70.00.

If you prefer shopping online, Harbor Freight carries this type for alot less. Keep in mind you get what you pay for when you buy tools, but I have had good luck with Harbor Freight.

I lived near 2 harbor freights when I lived in Sandy Eggo. It's hit & miss depending what your looking for. I had impact sockets from them break, & got an exchange no prob. But got a hydraulic press, & some other shop tools I'm very happy with. IMO, Harbor Freight is worth looking into. Do some homework on the tool(s) your looking for.

I bought a few items from harbor freight over the years. I have none left that I recall in my shop. They either broke or became unusable in short order. You get what you pay for.

If you do a lot of welding, Harbor Freight is an excellent source for cheap, expendable, c-clamps, vice-grip style pliers, etc. If you want quality, then, of course, you'll have to shop elsewhere.

When I adjusted the bands in my old 95, I picked up an inch pound torque wrench from harbor freight.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=2696

yes, they do have alot of clamps and every time I have been in, one size has been on sale. I have paid at most $2.99 for the 6" clamps.

a torque wrench isn't designed for rugged use. Harbor freight's torque wrenches are lifetime warranted. They don't say anything about yearly recalibration like Craftsman's do and they cost a hell of a lot less.
