Yeah, it may get louder. Depends on how you design it. I tried putting a simple round open element air cleaner on my 5.9. That was so loud it was really irritating, so I changed it to a Dodge kit with the cone element up near the front. It's still louder than stock, but not annoying.

I'm planning to use K&N cone filter.Thinking if it makes sense to leave the silencer(black big box at TB?),but probably it is not direct air intake system then.

a ROUND ELEMENT ON A 5.9 is not a CAI.

ON a 4.7, you will not even see much, if any gain even on a dyno.

Comming very soon; Amsoil pipe system. I'm told the filter works about 10 times better than the K&N.

trucky,
Sorry, I thought Mikesz was talking about a K&N cone filter for the intake. I didn't realise you guys were talking about exhaust systems.

No, you're right, Shatto. They are talking about air filters/intakes. I've heard the same about the AMSOIL filters. Just waiting for them to come out with the cones. I'd like to give one a try.

Mikesz, if anything that big black "silencer" ,aka "Resonator", is just a pain in the arse to take off and put back on. I think I read where GraphiteDak put an insulation sheet on his homebrew tube to help cut down with heat infusion and noise. I'm still wanting to do something w/ my intake, but I'm just not sure what yet.

Very true. But I was using it as an example of what can happen if you change the intake system.

I tried it because I had it on the shelf and I wanted to see what would happen. No apparent power gain or loss. No change in fuel mileage. Just got a lot louder.

It is not silencer but resonator ofcourse. As I mentioned before,my english is far to be perfect ,so I may name some things in a strange or funny way.My question was if I will leave the resonator and will continue with 3"pipe and K&N filter, does it have any sens or it is not air intake system anymore???

On my 2000 4.7L, I have a setup where it just replaces the airbox and leaves the resonator. It does help it a bit, but I want to remove it and put in the 3" piping to the throttle body. Just seems to be a lot more efficient and a lot less hassle when working on the engine. If you've had to take the resonator off on more than one occassion, you'll see what I am referring about.

However, I'm not totally sure about the differences between the 00 - 03 Daks and the latest Generation (04 - 06). I'm not sure if the airbox was moved or what. I'm noticing different part numbers when looking up intakes, so I am assume it is.

On my 04'it does not seem to be very complicated
Considering if insulation on the pipe, must be heat resistant?
