I got absolutely NO complaints against the Amsoil Guy.

Thank Goodness he is here so I can post for FREE.

Steven Roark has an Amsoil Forum on another truck site where he can post without the flaming child-like behavior that is found here. Maybe you guys should check it out: Steven's Amsoil Forum

Super bee,
You aren't thinking cheap enough.
Practice; say "I'm cheap, I'm cheap!"
Have Steve sponsor you.
Buy at his cost.
Go 25,000 miles between changes of oil and filter.
Do arithmatec.
It costs less than a change-place every 3,000 miles.
Still don't believe?
Don't do any of the above. Buy Amsoil 7,500 mile rated oil at retail. It still costs less than the quick change place.
AND
The Amsoil oil will protect that power producing jewel under your hood better than conventional oil can.

Super bee, I was a bit of a skeptic too. In some cases, I still am. I've always owned older vehicles that required oil changes at 3k miles (except for a Toyota and a Jeep, even then I did it at 3k). The oil always came out looking more like coffee than fresh oil. So far, I've put a little bit over 3k miles on my Amsoil Synthetic, and it still looks fresh (bright brown, no contaminants, good consistency). I am keeping a close eye on it to see how it holds up. When I hit the 5k mark, I will be 100% convinced as to its longevity. I drive in really dusty conditions, and if it can make it 5k, still look new, and run smooth, then I am sold. I will probably send it in to be tested just to be sure though. For my first round of changes, I used their Group III base. If it holds up beyond 5k, I will be more apt to switch to the Group IV base and run it even longer.

Eye_Trip, I've been posting on this board since November. I apologize if you believed me to be one of the other persons on this site.

My opinion, take it as you will, is that people have no right to criticize or bash Amsoil if you haven't, at the very least, tried their products. Everyone is a skeptic, myself included; however, prove your points by trying the product and showing results instead of huff-n-guff and a bunch of hot air. You want facts? You can read brimming reports till you are blue in the face and STILL be unconvinced. The only way to get past this is to try to an Amsoil product for yourself. Since November, I've NEVER seen Steven try to FORCE people to use Amsoil products. I was curious about the products, so I decided to try it for myself. If I like that product, I promote that product. Plain and simple. There are many people on this site that are die-hard users of M1 and they promote it because they like it. I have no problem with that. They like it, and it works for them--more power to 'em. Nobody twists your arm to make you try something.. this isn't Mother Russia. (Cue Mother Russia jokes)

jpkomm,
Be sure you are using the Amsoil (or a competator's) oil filter that is designed to filter synthetic.
If you want to be absolutely sure, have a sample sent to the lab, Oil Analyzers,Inc.
Color doesn't really mean much. I've sent samples that looked black, that came back "ok for continued use."

Have it teamed up with Amsoil's Ea Nanofiber filter. Seems to be doing the trick. Before that, I've always used Wix filters (Napa Gold).

I'm still using up my stock of the old filters and have not used the Ea filter yet.
Let us know the results in oh, about 25,000 miles.

Well, I'm still using the "XL" Group III Based oil because I wanted to test the waters before jumping in. I am impressed so far though. I'm not exactly the most gentle driver half the time, and this stuff seems to be holding up well. The 100% Synthetic Group IV oil (25k oil) is next on my list to try. Thanks for the tip on the oil analyzers. I think they sell what you need to do it on their website, correct? I'll have to check. Since it is warming up here, I may go ahead and send some in to be checked.

If I am going to do the 25k mile oil, I will most definitely do periodic checks every so often. Still, knowing me, I'd probably change it well before that. If, however, a person cannot afford the Group IV 100% Synthetic base oil for whatever reason, I do endorse the "XL" Group III oil. It still gets the job done even though it doesn't last quite as long according to the product's datasheet.

Free Catalog, Good!

jpkomm,
You didn't say, but be sure you are using the recommended weight oil. I used 50 wt until I was educated that it wouldn't lubricate my 30 wt engine as well. I've used Series 2000 0-30 weight oil for the 500,000 miles my truck has gone on the original engine. No, not the same oil.
It will be worth the cost if you do an oil analysis now, to set a baseline, then say, two more this year. You'll be amazed.
